Abstract
A front projection display device having a projection module and a docking station. The docking station has a base. Further, the docking station can include an extendable arm attached to the base. The projection module contains an optical engine. The optical engine includes an illumination system, an imaging system, and a wide-angle projection lens. The optical engine outputs an image at a half field angle of at least 45°. The projected image has substantially no distortion and requires substantially no keystone correction.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A front projection display device comprising:
a projection module to provide an extreme off-axis image to a viewing surface; and a docking station configured to receive the projection module.
2 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the docking station comprises a base and an extendable arm attached to the base.
3 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the projection module comprises an optical engine comprising:
an illumination system; an imaging system; and a wide angle projection lens, wherein the optical engine outputs the image at a half field angle of at least 45° and wherein the image has substantially no distortion and requires substantially no keystone correction.
4 . The device of claim 3 , wherein the wide angle projection lens comprises the following components in sequential order from a screen side:
a first lens group of negative refractive power, the first lens group having at least one aspheric surface; a second lens group of substantially zero refractive power and wherein an aperture stop lies within or near the second lens group; and a third lens group of positive refractive power, wherein the following Conditions (1) to (3) are satisfied: |F 1 /F|<4.0 Condition (1) |F 2 /F|>50 Condition (2) |F 3 /F|<3.5 Condition (3) where F is the focal length of the wide-angle projection lens; F 1 is the focal length of the first lens group; F 2 is the focal length of the second lens group; and F 3 is the focal length of the third lens group.
5 . The device of claim 2 , wherein the extendable arm comprises
power lines to provide power to the projection module; and a communications line for communicating between the projection module and a computer.
6 . The device of claim 5 , wherein the extendable arm further comprises a connection to provide at least one of a wired and a wireless network connection.
7 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the projection module has a throw distance of less than about one meter.
8 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the projection module further comprises a handle.
9 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the projection module further comprises an expansion module.
10 . The device of claim 2 , wherein the extendable arm comprises one of a telescopic arm and a flexible arm.
11 . The device of claim 10 , wherein the extendable arm comprises a flexible arm having a hinged elbow located between a first arm portion and a second arm portion.
12 . The device of claim 11 , wherein the second arm portion has a length that can be adjusted.
13 . The device of claim 11 , wherein the second arm portion provides lateral movement.
14 . The device of claim 2 , wherein the base of the docking station is mounted to one of a fixed wall, a moveable wall, and a board.
15 . The device of claim 2 , wherein the docking station further comprises a dock located distal to the base.
16 . The device of claim 15 , wherein the projection module is mateable to the dock by a twisting motion.
17 . A mobile media station comprising:
a cart; a screen attachable to the cart; and a projection display device disposed on the cart to provide an image to the screen, the device comprising:
a projection module to project the image; and
a docking station to receive the projection module.
18 . The mobile media station of claim 17 , wherein the projection module comprises an optical engine comprising:
an illumination system; an imaging system; and a wide-angle projection lens, wherein the optical engine outputs an image at a half field angle of at least 45° and wherein the image has substantially no distortion and requires substantially no keystone correction.
19 . The mobile media station of claim 18 , wherein the wide-angle projection lens comprises the following components in sequential order from a screen side:
a first lens group of negative refractive power, the first lens group having at least one aspheric surface; a second lens group of substantially zero refractive power and wherein an aperture stop lies within or near the second lens group; and a third lens group of positive refractive power, wherein the following Conditions (1) to (3) are satisfied: |F 1 / F|< 4.0 Condition (1) |F 2 / F|> 50 Condition (2) |F 3 / F|< 3.5 Condition (3) where F is the focal length of the wide-angle projection lens; F 1 is the focal length of the first lens group; F 2 is the focal length of the second lens group; and F 3 is the focal length of the third lens group.
20 . The mobile media station of claim 17 , wherein the docking station comprises
a power supply to supply power to the projection module; and a communications line to provide communication between the projection module and a computer.
21 . The mobile media station of claim 20 , wherein the docking station further comprises a connection to provide at least one of a wired and a wireless network connection.
22 . The mobile media station of claim 17 , wherein the projection module further comprises at least one of a handle and an expansion module.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
