Folding work table
Abstract
An improved folding table of the type having two one-piece legs pivotally attached to a tabletop and two two-piece legs pivotally attached to the tabletop with each one-piece leg pivotally connected to the two-piece leg that is on the same side of the table as the one-piece leg. The first primary improvement comprises a power assist actuator pivotally connected to the tabletop and to a first one-piece leg. Preferably, a second power assist actuator connects the tabletop and second one-piece leg. The second principal improvement comprises a first wheel rotatably connected near the free end of the first two-piece leg, a second wheel rotatably connected near the free end of the second two-piece leg, and the free ends of the two-piece legs being bent so that they support the table when the table is unfolded but do not interfere with the wheels of the table when the table is folded.

a first wheel having a radius and a bottom and being rotatably connected to the second segment of the first two-piece leg at a point near the free end of the second segment of the first two-piece leg with the second segment of the first two-piece leg being bent, near the point of attachment of said first wheel to the second segment of the first two-piece leg, at a first angle away from the tabletop; a second wheel having a radius and a bottom and being rotatably connected to the second segment of the second two-piece leg near the free end of the second segment of the second two-piece leg with the second segment of the second two-piece leg being bent, near the point of attachment of said second wheel to the second segment of the first two-piece leg, at a second angle away from the tabletop, wherein the first angle, the second angle, dimensions of the first two-piece leg, dimensions of the second two-piece leg, the point of attachment of the first wheel to the second segment of the first two-piece leg, the point of attachment of the second wheel to the second segment of the second two-piece leg, the dimensions of said first wheel, and the dimensions of said second wheel are selected such that the free end of the second segment of the first two-piece leg and the free end of the second segment of the second two-piece leg hold said first wheel and said second wheel above a surface supporting the table when the first two-piece leg and the second two-piece leg have been unfolded to support the tabletop while maintaining the free end of the second segment of the first two-piece leg and the free end of the second segment of the second two-piece leg higher than the bottom of said first wheel and higher than the bottom of said second wheel and providing ground clearance for the free end of the second segment of the first two-piece leg and for the free end of the second segment of the second two-piece leg when the table has been folded, wherein the ground clearance for the free end of the second segment of the first two-piece leg is substantially equal to the radius of the first wheel and the ground clearance for the free end of the second segment of the second two-piece leg when the table has been folded is substantially equal to the radius of the second wheel; a power assist actuator pivotally connected to the tabletop and to the first one-piece leg; a second power assist actuator pivotally connected to the tabletop and to the second one-piece leg; a screw threadably mounted in the bottom of the one-piece leg; a pin removably insertable into an aperture in the first segment of the first two-piece leg and into a corresponding aperture in the second segment of the first two-piece leg when the first two-piece leg is unfolded; a first crosspiece attached between the first segment of the first two-piece leg and the first segment of the second two-piece leg; a second crosspiece attached between the second segment of the first two-piece leg, below the point of pivotal attachment of the first one-piece leg and the second segment of the first two-piece leg, and the second segment of the second two-piece leg, below the point of pivotal attachment of the second one-piece leg and the second segment of the second two-piece leg; and a third crosspiece attached between the first one-piece leg, below the point of pivotal attachment of the first one-piece leg and the second segment of the first two-piece leg, and the second one-piece leg, below the point of pivotal attachment of the second one-piece leg and the second segment of the second two-piece leg, wherein the free end of the first one-piece leg is bent outwardly to avoid said first wheel when the table has been folded and the free end of the second one-piece leg is bent outwardly to avoid said second wheel when the table has been folded.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
