Shooter's rest

Abstract

An improved molded shooter's rest having a plurality of supports in both the front and rear portions of the shooter's rest 10 . The front supports are wider than the rear supports to provide improved stability.

1 . A gun rest comprising: 
 a front base comprising a front fork and a plurality of supports separated by a first support distance;    a rear base comprising a rear fork and a second plurality of supports separated by a second support distance; and    a couple for securing the front base to the rear base, said coupler permitting said front base and said rear base to pivot relative to each other so that said plurality of supports and said second plurality of supports can lie in different planes;    said second support distance being less than said first support distance.    
   
   
       2 . The gun rest as recited in  claim 1  wherein said front base and said rear base are molded from a polymer.  
   
   
       3 . The gun rest as recited in  claim 1  wherein said rear base is detachable from said front base to facilitate using the front base as a handgun support.  
   
   
       4 . The gun rest as recited in  claim 1  wherein said rear base comprises a tubular that can telescope in and out of said front base.  
   
   
       5 . The gun rest as recited in  claim 4  wherein said front base and said rear base are molded from a polymer.  
   
   
       6 . The gun rest as recited in  claim 5  wherein said rear base is detachable from said front base to facilitate using the front base as a handgun support.  
   
   
       7 . The gun rest as recited in  claim 6  wherein said rear base telescopes in and out of said front base to vary a distance between said front and rear forks.  
   
   
       8 . The gun rest as recited in  claim 1  wherein said plurality of supports lie in first plane and said second plurality of supports lie in a second plane, said first and second planes being generally perpendicular to an axis of said gun rest.  
   
   
       9 . The gun rest as recited in  claim 1  wherein said gun rest weighs less than about 5 pounds.  
   
   
       10 . The gun rest as recited in  claim 1  wherein at least one of said front and rear forks is adjustable.  
   
   
       11 . The gun rest as recited in  claim 7  wherein said plurality of supports lie in first plane and said second plurality of supports lay in a second plane, said first and second planes being generally perpendicular to an axis of said gun rest.  
   
   
       12 . The gun rest as recited in  claim 7  wherein said gun rest weighs less than about 5 pounds.  
   
   
       13 . The gun rest as recited in  claim 7  wherein at least one of said front and rear forks is adjustable.  
   
   
       14 . The gun rest as recited in  claim 1  wherein said front base comprises a planar area for providing a handgun support.  
   
   
       15 . The gun rest as recited in  claim 1  wherein at least one of said front base or said rear base comprises a molded handle.  
   
   
       16 . The gun rest as recited in  claim 1  wherein said first support distance is at least 18 inches and said second support distance is at least 5.6 inches.  
   
   
       17 . A gun rest comprising: 
 a support having a first base having a first fork and further comprising a first plurality of supports and a second base having a second fork and further comprising a second plurality of supports, and    a coupler for coupling said first and second bases so as to permit the first base to lie in a first plane and said second base to lie in a second plane, said first and second plurality of supports being arranged to define a trapezoid and said support being molded from a polymer.    
   
   
       18 . The gun rest as recited in  claim 17  wherein said first base and said second base are molded from a polymer.  
   
   
       19 . The gun rest as recited in  claim 17  wherein said second base is detachable from said first base to facilitate using the first base as a handgun support.  
   
   
       20 . The gun rest as recited in  claim 17  wherein said second base telescopes in and out of said first base.  
   
   
       21 . The gun rest as recited in  claim 20  wherein said first base and said second base are molded from a polymer.  
   
   
       22 . The gun rest as recited in  claim 21  wherein said second base is detachable from said first base to facilitate using the first base as a handgun support.  
   
   
       23 . The gun rest as recited in  claim 22  wherein said second base telescopes in and out of said first base to vary a distance between said first and second forks.  
   
   
       24 . The gun rest as recited in  claim 17  wherein said plurality of supports lie in first plane and said second plurality of supports lay in a second plane, said first and second planes being generally perpendicular to an axis of said gun rest.  
   
   
       25 . The gun rest as recited in  claim 17  wherein said gun rest weighs less than about 5 pounds.  
   
   
       26 . The gun rest as recited in  claim 17  wherein at least one of said first and second forks is adjustable.  
   
   
       27 . The gun rest as recited in  claim 23  wherein said first plurality of supports lie in first plane and said second plurality of supports lie in a second plane, said first and second planes being generally perpendicular to an axis of said gun rest.  
   
   
       28 . The gun rest as recited in  claim 23  wherein said gun rest weighs less than about 5 pounds.  
   
   
       29 . The gun rest as recited in  claim 23  wherein at least one of said first and second forks is adjustable.  
   
   
       30 . The gun rest as recited in  claim 17  wherein said front base comprises a planar area for supporting a butt of a handgun.  
   
   
       31 . The gun rest as recited in  claim 17  wherein at least on of said front base or said rear base comprises a molded handle.  
   
   
       32 . The gun rest as recited in  claim 17  wherein a distance between said first plurality of supports is at least 18 inches and a distance between said second plurality of supports is at least 5.6 inches.  
   
   
       33 . The gun rest as recited in  claim 1  wherein said coupler is a clamp.  
   
   
       34 . The gun rest as recited in  claim 17  wherein said first plane is the same as said second plane.  
   
   
       35 . The gun rest as recited in  claim 17  wherein said first and second planes are different.  
   
   
       36 . A method for supporting a gun comprising the steps of pivoting a first support relative to a second support in response to a surface on which the first and second supports are situated; and 
 clamping the first and second supports together.
