Golf club head

Abstract

A golf club head includes a golf club head body, a striking plate mounted to a front side of the golf club head body, and a perimeter wall extending rearward from a perimeter of the golf club head body. A reinforcing layer is integrally and tightly bonded to a back of the striking plate. The reinforcing layer completely covers an engaging edge in a joint area between the striking plate and the perimeter wall, thereby improving structural strength of the golf club head and absorbing vibrations generated as a result of striking a golf ball.

1 . A golf club head comprising: 
 a golf club head body including a front side and a perimeter wall, the perimeter wall extending rearward along the front side of the golf club head body;    a striking plate mounted to the front side of the golf club head body, the striking plate including a front face for striking a golf ball and a back; and    a reinforcing layer integrally and tightly bonded to the back of the striking plate, the reinforcing layer supporting an engaging edge in a joint area between the striking plate and the perimeter wall, the reinforcing layer integrally forming a perimeter rearward extension, the perimeter rearward extension extending rearward along an inner surface of the perimeter wall, the perimeter rearward extension being tightly bonded to the entire inner surface of the perimeter wall so as to insure bond attachment of the reinforcing layer to the back of the striking plate while striking the golf ball, thereby improving structural strength of the golf club head.    
   
   
       2 . The golf club head as claimed in  claim 1 , wherein the reinforcing layer is formed by one of heat pressing and injection molding.  
   
   
       3 . The golf club head as claimed in  claim 1 , wherein the reinforcing layer is made of a light material.  
   
   
       4 . The golf club head as claimed in  claim 3 , wherein the light material is selected from a group consisting of carbon fibers, resins, high molecular polymer materials, light alloys, and rubber.

       6 . The golf club head as claimed in  claim 1 , wherein the back of the striking plate has a main striking area not covered by the reinforcing layer.

The golf club head as claimed in  claim 1 , wherein the perimeter rearward extension includes a plurality of notches and engaging teeth arranged in a staggered manner, the engaging teeth being engaged with a flange of the perimeter wall of the golf club head body, the notches permitting a portion of the inner surface of the perimeter wall being exposed in the notches of the perimeter rearward extension.  
   
   
       8 . The golf club head as claimed in  claim 7 , wherein each said area is one of semicircular, semi-oval, triangular, square, swirl-like, and droplet-like.

The golf club head as claimed in  claim 1 , wherein the perimeter wall defines an opening in a back of the golf club head body, further including a perimeter flange extending from a rear end edge the inner surface of the perimeter wall for preventing the reinforcing layer and the perimeter rearward extension from disengaging from the opening.  
   
   
       10 . The golf club head as claimed in  claim 1 , wherein the striking plate is engaged to the golf club head body by means of one of welding, brazing, insertion, pressing, and screwing.  
   
   
       11 . The golf club head as claimed in  claim 1 , wherein the striking plate is integrally formed with the golf club head body as a single member.
