Abstract
A motor vehicle with a clutch and an automated transmission has a first electronic control unit for controlling the engine, a second electronic control unit for controlling the transmission, depending on a set position of a manual gear selector. The second control unit, with the gear selector in position for automatic shifting, selects a gear for starting off or under way, which is determined by the gear selection strategy stored in the second control unit as a function of various parameters fed into the second control unit. The second control unit is disposed to continuously perform computer simulations, at least on the basis of information on road incline and throttle opening position of the future travel of the vehicle, for a set of different combinations of shifts rpm:s and shift increments in accordance with a criterion selected by the driver. The second control unit selects an optimal shifting schedule.

Motor vehicle with a clutch ( 3 ) and automated transmission ( 9 ) between the engine and the drive wheels of the vehicle, comprising a first electronic control unit ( 48 ) for controlling the engine, a second electronic control unit ( 45 ) for controlling the transmission in accordance with a selected position for an electronic gear selector ( 46 ), where the second control unit with the gear selector in the position for automatic shifting, when starting off or under way, selects a gear which is determined by a gear selection strategy stored in the second control unit as a function of various parameters fed into the second control unit, characterized in that one of the control units is disposed, when starting off or under way, to continuously perform computer simulations, at least in response to information on road incline and throttle opening position, of the future driving of the vehicle, for a set of different combinations of engine speeds when shifting and shift increments, in accordance with a criterion selected by a control ( 300 ), and select a shifting schedule which will be optimal in view of the selected criterion.
2 . Motor vehicle according to claim 1 , characterized in that the control ( 300 ) has a position for automatic control parameter weighting in accordance with a model stored in one of the control units.
3 . Motor vehicle according to claim 1 , characterized in that the instantaneous vehicle position is determined by a GPS ( 350 ) (Global Positioning System) unit which is coupled to one of the control units for instantaneous determination of vehicle position.
4 . Motor vehicle according to claim 3 , characterized in that one of the control units is disposed to be given information from an electronic map ( 320 ) on the topology surrounding the vehicle.

Motor vehicle according to claim 1 , characterized in that one of the control units is disposed to be given information from sensors ( 360 ), and, at least with knowledge of instantaneous vehicle position, speed and road incline, extrapolate through calculation, a future position of the vehicle.
6 . Motor vehicle according to claim 1 , characterized in that the control ( 300 ), in accordance with the selection of criterion, weights control parameters, such as fuel consumption, average speed and exhaust emissions.
7 . Motor vehicle according to claim 1 , characterized in that the switch ( 300 ), in accordance with the selection of criterion, weights control parameters, such as fuel consumption, average speed and noise emissions.

Motor vehicle according to claim 1 , characterized in that the derivative and acceleration of the throttle opening position, the instantaneous or extrapolated value, representing the intentions of the driver, also in combination with a cruise control function, are parameters in a computer simulation connected to a gear selection strategy.

Motor vehicle according to claim 1 , characterized in that, in one of the control units, there are stored dynamic models for a drive train, and further a mathematical model for the vehicle, including dynamics for estimating at least average speed, fuel consumption, vehicle inertia and an engine model comprising steady state torque, turbodynamics, gear ratios and degrees of efficiency, and further also models comprising accelerator pedal mappings and full load curves.
10 . Motor vehicle according to claim 9 , characterized in that, in the second control unit ( 45 ), there are stored dynamic models for the vehicle, which are individually adapted to unique characteristics.
11 . Motor vehicle according to claim 2 , characterized in that the control ( 300 ), in accordance with the selection of criterion, weights control parameters, such as fuel consumption, average speed and exhaust emissions.
