Method and apparatus for cleaning and forming windshield wiper blades

Abstract

A device and method for cleaning and refurbishing windshield wiper blades comprising an adhesive backed abrasive strip that may be securely affixed to the surface of a windshield in the path of a wiper blade so that, when the wiper blade is operated, the wiper blade passes over the abrasive strip and is cleaned and refurbished.

1 . A device for cleaning and refurbishing a windshield wiper blade comprising: 
 an abrasive strip having an abrasive side and a nonabrasive side;    an adhesive;    said adhesive being attached to the nonabrasive side of the abrasive strip to form an adhesive backed abrasive strip with an abrasive side and an adhesive side.    
   
   
       2 . The device of  claim 1  wherein the adhesive side of the adhesive backed abrasive strip is temporarily affixed to a vehicle windshield in the path of a wiper blade  
   
   
       3 . The device of  claim 1  wherein the abrasive side is sandpaper.  
   
   
       4 . The device of  claim 1  wherein the abrasive strip is a rectangular strip having a width of approximately one half inch.  
   
   
       5 . The device of  claim 1  wherein the adhesive provides a strong surface adhesion to a vehicle windshield, but that nonetheless may be easily peeled from the windshield.  
   
   
       6 . The device of  claim 2  where in the abrasive side is sandpaper.  
   
   
       7 . The device of  claim 2  wherein the abrasive strip is a rectangular strip having a width of approximately one half inch.  
   
   
       8 . The device of  claim 2  wherein the adhesive provides surface adhesion to a vehicle windshield, but nonetheless may be easily peeled from the windshield.  
   
   
       9 . A window comprising: 
 a transparent material sheet;    a cleaning strip having an abrasive side and an adhesive side, the adhesive side of the cleaning strip attached to the transparent material sheet in a path of a window wiper.    
   
   
       10 . The window of  claim 9  wherein the transparent material sheet is a vehicle windshield.  
   
   
       11 . The window of  claim 9  wherein the abrasive side is sandpaper.  
   
   
       12 . The window of  claim 9  wherein the cleaning strip is a rectangular strip having a width of approximately one half inch.  
   
   
       13 . A method for cleaning and refurbishing a windshield wiper blade comprising the steps of: 
 affixing an adhesive backed abrasive strip having an adhesive side and an abrasive side to a vehicle windshield in the path followed by one of the vehicle's windshield wipers, said adhesive backed abrasive strip being affixed to the windshield by the adhesive side of the adhesive backed abrasive strip;    operating the vehicle's windshield wipers so that the wiper passes over the abrasive side of the adhesive backed abrasive strip, thereby cleaning and refurbishing the windshield wiper blade;    removing the adhesive backed abrasive strip from the windshield.    
   
   
       14 . The method of  claim 13  wherein the abrasive side of the adhesive backed abrasive strip is sandpaper.
