Elastic deck web

Abstract

A one piece molded elastic deck web is disclosed for securing and retaining items to a surface. The web further includes releasable attachment structure comprising a integrally molded elastic socket which engages a fastener and which may protrude from the retaining surface.

1 . A one-piece molded elastic web for retention of articles proximate a surface, comprising; 
 an arrangement of one or a plurality of struts and attachment extensions cooperating to form a web-like structure, wherein said attachment extensions terminate at one or more sockets, and    one or more fasteners which engage said one or more sockets to retain said web to said surface.    
   
   
       2 . The invention as described in  claim 1 , wherein said fastener includes a grommet having barbs and said socket comprises a hollow section having a wall.  
   
   
       3 . The invention as described in  claim 1 , wherein said web is injection molded.  
   
   
       4 . The invention as described in  claim 1 , wherein said web is compression molded.  
   
   
       5 . The invention as described in  claim 1 , wherein said web comprises an elastomeric material.  
   
   
       6 . The web of  claim 5 , wherein said elastomeric material has a Shore A hardness below 50.  
   
   
       7 . The invention as described in  claim 2 , wherein the retention of said socket to said grommet comprises the contraction of said hollow section around barbs in response to a tensile force applied to said attachment extension.  
   
   
       8 . A method of securing articles to a surface or within a cavity comprising the steps of 
 providing a one-piece molded web comprising an arrangement of one or a plurality of struts and attachment extensions, wherein said extensions terminate in a socket;    providing at least a portion of a surface to retain said articles;    providing a fastener in said surface;    engaging said socket with said fastener to secure said web to said surface.    
   
   
       9 . The invention as described in  claim 8 , wherein said fastener includes a grommet having barbs and said socket comprises a hollow section having a wall.  
   
   
       10 . The invention as described in  claim 8 , wherein said web is injection molded.  
   
   
       11 . The invention as described in  claim 8 , wherein said web is compression molded.  
   
   
       12 . The invention as described in  claim 8 , wherein said web comprises an elastomeric material.  
   
   
       13 . The web of  claim 9 , wherein said elastomeric material has a Shore A hardness below 50.  
   
   
       14 . The invention as described in  claim 9 , wherein the retention of said socket to said grommet is improved by the contraction of said hollow section around barbs in response to a tensile force applied to said attachment extension.
