Interlocking fasteners for mounting wall-hung articles

Abstract

A clip for hanging articles from a wall has planer first and second sides which are offset from one another to provide a predetermined clip width. One edge of the clip is a Z-shaped contact surface, having a first face which angles forwardly from one of the sides, a second face which angles rearwardly from the other side and a third face which extends between the first and second faces. The first and second faces are relatively short and extend from their respective sides at a relatively large angle. The third face is considerably longer than the first and second faces and is at a relatively shallow angle with respect to the sides. One piece of the clip is attached to an object to be hung and another piece is reversed top to bottom and front to back and attached to a wall.

1 . An elongate clip for hanging articles from a vertical wall comprising: 
 (a) a planar first side;    (b) a planar second side which is parallel with said first side and is separated therefrom to provide a predetermined clip width;    (c) a contact surface which extends between said first and second sides along an elongate edge of said clip; and    (d) said contact surface has a Z-shape in cross section, including a first face which angles inwardly and forwardly from said first side at a first predetermined acute angle, a second face which angles inwardly and rearwardly from said second side at a second predetermined acute angle and a third face which extends between said first and second faces.    
   
   
       2 . The clip of  claim 1  wherein said first angle is equal to said second angle.  
   
   
       3 . The clip of  claim 2  wherein said first and second angles are 35°.  
   
   
       4 . The clip of  claim 1  wherein said first face includes a first distal extremity and said second face includes a second distal extremity and said first distal extremity is offset from said first side by a distance which is larger than the distance which said second distal extremity is offset from said second side.  
   
   
       5 . The clip of  claim 4  wherein said first distal extremity is offset from said first side 0.021 inches further than said second distal extremity is offset from said second side.  
   
   
       6 . The clip of  claim 1  wherein said third face is longer than said first and second faces.  
   
   
       7 . The clip of  claim 1  wherein said third face is at a third predetermined angle with respect to said first and second sides and said third angle is less than said first and second angles.  
   
   
       8 . The clip of  claim 7  wherein said third angle is 5°.  
   
   
       9 . The clip of  claim 1  wherein a portion of said first side is recessed towards said second side.  
   
   
       10 . The clip of  claim 9  wherein said clip includes at least one opening which extends from said recess to said second side.  
   
   
       11 . The clip of  claim 4  wherein said first and second distal extremities are rounded.
