Golf club

Abstract

There is disclosed a golf club such as a putter and in one embodiment an attachment for the same. The club head has at least one striking face, a rear face and side faces or edges defining a body of a predetermined thickness to which a shaft is attached. Within the body of the head there is provided a recess in a form which opens into the rear face of the head or as a closed aperture completely defined within the body which is of marginally greater dimensions than, and adapted to receive an object such as a conventionally sized golf ball. The recess or aperture can be disposed of substantially centrally of the head behind the striking face of the club head so that the “sweet spot” on the striking face can be substantially centrally disposed of said recess or aperture. Ideal toe-heel weight distribution can be achieved in this manner. The club, which is typically a putter, can be used as a practicing aid by swinging the same proximate a surface when the articles or objects are disposed within said recess or aperture. In one embodiment when the putter is swung so that it is no longer proximate the floor, the object or article is released and is momentum causes the same to continue moving in a direction imparted to it by the swinging of the putter. The swing profile of a user can thus be quickly assessed. The attachment embodiment functions in a similar manner and allows for attachment to a conventional putter not provided with a recess to be used as a putting training aid.

       7 . An attachment for a putter head comprising an attachment face and one or more faces or edges defining at least one recess therebetween; wherein said at least one recess is dimensioned to receive a golf ball and restrict the movement of said golf ball in directions both parallel and perpendicular to a striking face of said putter head during at least a portion of a swing of the putter head by a user.  
   
   
       8 . An attachment according to  claim 7  wherein said at least one recess is positioned in front of said striking face of the putter head.  
   
   
       9 . An attachment according to  claim 7  wherein said at least one recess is positioned behind said striking face of the putter head.  
   
   
       10 . An attachment according to  claim 7  wherein said at least one recess is in the shape of a circle behind or in front of the attachment face.  
   
   
       11 . An attachment according to  claim 7  wherein said at least one recess is in the shape of an arc behind or in front of the attachment face.  
   
   
       12 . An attachment according to  claim 7  wherein said one or more faces or edges define a pair of spaced limbs extending substantially parallel rearwardly or forwardly of the attachment face and generally perpendicular to said striking face of said putter head.  
   
   
       13 . An attachment according to  claim 7  further comprising means for uniformly and repeatably attaching said attachment to said putter head.  
   
   
       14 . A device comprising an attachment face shaped and sized for attachment to a club head of a putter and one or more receiving faces defining at least one recess dimensioned to receive a golf ball and restrict the movement of the golf ball during at least a portion of a swing of the putter by a user.  
   
   
       15 . A device according to  claim 13  wherein the club head is attached to the device behind said recess.  
   
   
       16 . A device according to  claim 13  wherein the club head is attached to the device in front of said recess.  
   
   
       17 . A device according to  claim 13  wherein said at least one recess is in the shape of a circle behind or in front of the attachment face.  
   
   
       18 . A device according to  claim 13  wherein said at least one recess is in the shape of an arc behind or in front of the attachment face.  
   
   
       19 . A device according to  claim 13  wherein said one or more faces further define a pair of spaced limbs extending substantially parallel rearwardly or forwardly of the attachment location and generally perpendicular to said striking face of said putter head.  
   
   
       20 . A device according to  claim 13  further comprising means uniformly and repeatably attaching said attachment to said putter head.
