Abstract

A golf club head ( 10 ) of the wood variety is constructed of a titanium ball striking plate ( 16 ), a composite central housing part ( 18 ) and a back housing part ( 22 ) assembled into a unitary configuration. The central housing part and back housing part are constructed of a graphite composite with carbon fibers. One or more weights are fixedly secured within the back housing part ( 22 ) to provide a center of gravity for the head ( 10 ) located just rearwardly of the plate ( 16 ) and below the centerline between the top and bottom surfaces of the central housing part ( 18 ).

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A golf club head of the wood variety, comprising:
a metal ball striking plate constructed of titanium having a rear formed surface; a central housing part to which a hosel and shaft is connected and including a surface contoured to fittingly engage with the striking plate formed surface; a back housing part having an edge wall secured to a portion of the central housing part facing in a direction opposite to that of the striking plate; and means for securing the striking plate to the central housing part.

2 . A golf club head of the wood variety as in claim 1 , in which the securing means includes a plurality of metal pegs unitarily interconnecting the striking plate and central housing part together.

3 . A golf club head of the wood variety as in claim 1 , in which the central housing part and back housing part are molded from a graphite composite including carbon fibers.

4 . A golf club head of the wood variety as in claim 1 , in which the striking plate weighs approximately 4.5 ounces and the combined weight of the central housing part and back housing part is about 4.5 ounces.

5 . A golf club head of the wood variety as in claim 1 , in which the central housing part and back housing part are secured together by a cementitious material.

6 . A golf club head of the wood variety as in claim 1 , in which the back housing part includes an internal cavity that opens toward the central housing part on assembly, and at least one weight in the range of 5-30 grams secured to the inner bottom wall of the back housing part along the centerline plane between the heel and toe of the golf club head; such that the center of gravity for the assembled club head lies on the centerline plane between the heel and toe, within the back housing part cavity and below the centerline plane between top and bottom surface of the central housing part.
