Pharmaceutical composition of complex carbohydrates and essential oils and methods of using the same

Abstract

A method for producing a therapeutic treatment effect by a biologically active macromolecule through topical application to the skin of a human or other mammal is provided. One step of the method is providing a composition which includes the biologically active macromolecule and at least one essential oil. The biologically active macromolecule is present in an amount to produce the therapeutic treatment effect, and the essential oil is present in an amount to effect transdermal delivery of the biologically active macromolecule. The following step is applying the composition onto the skin of a human or other mammal to effectuate the transdermal delivery of the biologically active macromolecule evidenced by a resulting therapeutic treatment effect.

         3 . A method for producing a therapeutic treatment effect by a biologically active macromolecule through topical application to the skin of a human or other mammal, the method comprising: 
 providing a composition comprising the biologically active macromolecule and at least one essential oil, wherein the biologically active macromolecule is present in an amount to produce the therapeutic treatment effect, and wherein the essential oil is present in an amount to effect transdermal delivery of the biologically active macromolecule; and    applying the composition onto the skin of a human or other mammal to effectuate the transdermal delivery of the biologically active macromolecule evidenced by a resulting therapeutic treatment effect.    
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 3 , wherein the biologically active macromolecule is a low purity alternative to an injectable form of the biologically active macromolecule.  
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 3 , wherein the biologically active macromolecule has a molecular weight greater than 1000 Daltons.

The method of  claim 3 , wherein the essential oil is selected from a group consisting of, Eucalyptus Oil, Rosemary Oil, Pine Needle Oil, Tea Tree Oil, Wintergreen Oil, Peppermint Oil, Spearmint Oil, Camphor Oil, Sage Oil, Jojoba Oil, Cinnamon Oil, Anise Oil, lemon Oil, Lime Oil, Orange Oil, Menthol, Clove Oil, Almond Oil, White Pine Oil, Cardamon Oil, and Cedar Leaf Oil.  
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 3 , wherein the therapeutic treatment effect is selected from a group consisting of pain relief, relief from inflammation, relief from itching, relief from arthritis, relief from bursitis, wound healing, treatment of inflammation and itching of skin, treatment of inflammation and pain from tendonitis, treatment of inflammation and pain from muscle cramps, inhibition of bruising and inflammation, dissolution of bruises, wound healing in superficial cuts and scrapes, scar and skin healing, treatment of acne or psoriasis, treatment of dry skin, relief from burns, and relief from sunburn.  
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 3 , wherein the essential oil is present in the composition in a concentration of about 0.5% to about 20% vol/vol.  
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 3 , wherein the molecular weight of the biologically active macromolecule is a mixture of molecular weights.  
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 3 , wherein the biologically active macromolecule is present in a concentration of about 0.1% to about 99% vol/vol.  
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 3 , wherein the biologically active macromolecule is present in a concentration of about 0.3% to about 99% vol/vol.
