Abstract
A first flow path is defined within a first panel that forms a part of an extracorporeal fluid circuit. A second flow path is defined within a second panel that also forms a part of the extracorporeal fluid circuit. The first and second panels are oriented in a fluid processing cartridge for mounting as an integrated unit on a fluid processing machine and for removal as an integrated unit from the fluid processing machine.

a blood processing machine including sensors and actuators; a replaceable fluid circuit receivable by and interoperable with said sensors and actuators to perform a blood treatment; said blood processing machine including a controller with a memory, the memory being adapted for storing data necessary to perform a desired treatment modality and the controller being adapted for controlling the blood processing machine responsively to said data; said replaceable fluid circuit having a data carrying device carrying data to perform said desired treatment modality in a machine readable format; said blood processing machine including at least one scanner configured to automatically transfer the data to the machine in the act of loading the replaceable fluid circuit.
2 . A system as in claim 1 , wherein said fluid circuit includes a panel shaped cartridge supporting fluid lines of said fluid circuit, said data carrying device being attached to said panel shaped cartridge.
3 . A system as in claim 1 , wherein said fluid circuit includes a panel shaped cartridge supporting fluid lines of said fluid circuit, said data carrying device including a bar code on said panel shaped cartridge.
4 . A system as in claim 1 , wherein said data carrying device carries programming necessary for said treatment modality.
5 . A system as in claim 1 , wherein said scanner is a touch-contact type scanner.
6 . A system as in claim 1 , wherein said data carrying device includes a radio frequency memory device.
7 . A system as in claim 1 , wherein said data carrying device carries a unique identifier of said fluid circuit.
8 . A system as in claim 1 , wherein said data carrying device carries data necessary to perform a desired treatment protocol associated with the fluid circuit.
9 . A blood treatment system, comprising:
a programmable blood processing machine including sensors and actuators interoperable with a fluid circuit associated therewith; said programmable blood processing machine including a programmable processor receiving data from a memory, said memory being adapted to store at least one of control data and programs required to perform a desired treatment and the controller being adapted for controlling the programmable blood processing machine responsively to said at least one of control data and programs; said replaceable fluid circuit having a data carrying device carrying said at least one of control data and programs in a machine readable format; said programmable blood processing machine including at least one scanner configured to automatically transfer the data to the machine in the act of loading the replaceable fluid circuit.
10 . A system as in claim 9 , wherein said fluid circuit includes a panel shaped cartridge supporting fluid lines of said fluid circuit, said data carrying device being attached to said panel shaped cartridge.
11 . A system as in claim 9 , wherein said fluid circuit includes a panel shaped cartridge supporting fluid lines of said fluid circuit, said data carrying device including a bar code on said panel shaped cartridge.
12 . A system as in claim 9 , wherein said data carrying device carries programming necessary for said treatment modality.
13 . A system as in claim 9 , wherein said scanner is a touch-contact type scanner.
14 . A system as in claim 9 , wherein said data carrying device includes a radio frequency memory device.
15 . A system as in claim 9 , wherein said data carrying device carries a unique identifier of said fluid circuit.
16 . A system as in claim 9 , wherein said data carrying device carries data necessary to perform a desired treatment protocol associated with the fluid circuit.
17 . A blood treatment system, comprising:
a blood processing machine including sensors and actuators; a replaceable fluid circuit receivable by and interoperable with said sensors and actuators to perform a blood treatment; said blood processing machine including a controller with a memory, the memory being adapted for storing data necessary to perform a desired treatment modality and the controller being adapted for controlling the blood processing machine responsively to said data; said replaceable fluid circuit having a data carrying device carrying at least a unique identifier of said fluid circuit; said controller being configured to read said at least a unique identifier as part of an operational mode thereof which includes tracking a use of said fluid circuit.
18 . A system as in claim 17 , wherein said blood processing machine is configured to indicate an attempted multiple use of said fluid circuit responsively to said unique identifier.
