Abstract

A hanger for retaining insulation blankets disposed between adjacent joists or rafters, the hanger having an L-shaped hanger bracket received in sliding relationship by a U-shaped mounting bracket, wherein the mounting bracket is placed onto the joist or rafter and the height of the hanger bracket is adjustable relative to the mounting bracket for proper location of the insulation blanket dependent on the dimensions of the joist or rafter. Cooperating structural components on the mounting bracket and on the hanger bracket retain the hanger bracket in the proper disposition while allowing the relative position to be adjusted with relatively little force. Retention members to retain the insulation blanket and nail apertures for fixation of the hanger bracket without need for the mounting bracket are provided on the hanger bracket.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . An insulation hanger device for supporting insulation blankets, said device comprising:
a generally L-shaped hanger bracket in combination with a generally U-shaped mounting bracket; said hanger bracket comprising a support arm and an adjustment arm; and said mounting bracket comprising lateral retainer members to receive said adjustment arm such that relative movement between said mounting bracket and said adjustment arm is allowed.

2 . The device of claim 1 , further comprising adjustment means for retaining said adjustment arm in a selected position relative to said mounting bracket.

3 . The device of claim 2 , wherein said adjustment means comprise at least one detent ridge member and at least one convex detent member that cooperatively impede movement of said adjustment arm relative to said mounting bracket.

4 . The device of claim 3 , wherein said at least one detent ridge member comprises a pair of detent ridge members disposed on said mounting bracket, and wherein said at least one detent member comprises plural detent members disposed on said adjustment arm.

5 . The device of claim 4 , wherein said plural detent members are spaced at regular intervals on said adjustment arm.

6 . The device of claim 5 , wherein said pair of detent ridge members are spaced approximately 1.0 inch and wherein said plural detent members are spaced approximately 0.75 inches on center and are approximately 0.375 inches in diameter.

7 . The device of claim 6 , wherein said lateral retainer members comprise generally L-shaped extensions.

8 . The device of claim 7 , further comprising insulation blanket retention members disposed on said support surface.

9 . The device of claim 8 , further comprising nail apertures disposed on said adjustment arm.

10 . An insulation hanger device adapted for use with building joists or rafters and insulation blankets, said device comprising:
a generally L-shaped hanger bracket in combination with a generally U-shaped mounting bracket, said hanger bracket being relatively adjustable to said mounting bracket; said hanger bracket comprising a support arm and an adjustment arm; said mounting bracket comprising lateral retainer members to receive said adjustment arm in a sliding manner; and adjustment means for retaining said adjustment arm in a selected position relative to said mounting bracket.

11 . The device of claim 10 , wherein said adjustment means comprises at least one structural component positioned on said mounting bracket cooperating with at least one structural component positioned on said adjustment arm.

12 . The device of claim 11 , wherein said adjustment means comprise a pair of detent ridge members positioned on said mounting bracket and plural convex detent members positioned on said adjustment arm.

13 . The device of claim 12 , wherein said detent ridge members are spaced approximately 0.1 inch and wherein said detent members are approximately 0.375 inches in diameter and spaced approximately 0.75 inches on center.

14 . The device of claim 13 , wherein said detent ridge members are approximately 0.125 inches in width.

15 . The device of claim 14 , wherein said lateral retainer members are L-shaped extensions positioned to either side of said adjustment arm.

16 . The device of claim 15 , further comprising retention members positioned on said support arm.

17 . The device of claim 16 , further comprising nail apertures positioned on said adjustment arm.

18 . An insulation hanger device for use in combination with building joists or rafters and insulation blankets, said device comprising:
a generally L-shaped hanger bracket in combination with a generally U-shaped mounting bracket, said hanger bracket being relatively adjustable to said mounting bracket; said hanger bracket comprising a support arm and an adjustment arm, wherein said support arm is adapted to receive an insulation blanket and wherein said adjustment arm is slidingly received by said mounting bracket; said mounting bracket comprising a pair of leg members and a transverse member, and wherein said mounting bracket is adapted to connect to a joist or rafter and to receive said adjustment arm of said hanger bracket; and adjustment means for retaining said adjustment arm relative to said mounting bracket such that said support arm is properly positioned relative to said joist or rafter.

19 . The device of claim 18 , wherein said adjustment means comprise a pair of detent ridge members positioned on one of said leg members of said mounting bracket and plural convex detent members positioned on said adjustment arm at regular intervals.

20 . The device of claim 18 , wherein said detent ridge members are spaced approximately 0.1 inch and are approximately 0.125 inches in width, and wherein said detent members are approximately 0.375 inches in diameter and spaced approximately 0.75 inches on center.
