Head cover for a golf club

Abstract

A head cover for a golf club that is relatively simple use is provided. The head cover includes a cover body formed essentially of flexible, nonrigid material and a magnetic fastener. More particularly, the cover body defines an inner compartment for receiving at least the head of the golf club having an adjustable opening sized to provide easy access thereto. The magnetic fastener is disposed about the opening to at least partially shut the opening, thereby maintaining the head cover on the club head, once installed. As the fastener is operable via magnetic force, engagement and disengagement of the fastener is achieved without undue manipulation, thereby promoting frequent use of the head cover.

1 . A head cover for golf club comprising: 
 a cover body formed essentially of flexible, non-rigid material, the cover body defining an inner compartment to accommodate a head of a golf club and defining an opening of sufficient size for the head of the golf club to be inserted into and removed from the inner compartment; and    a magnetic fastener positioned about the opening to at least partially shut the opening.    
   
   
       2 . A head cover as defined in  claim 1 , wherein: 
 the cover body includes a flap disposed about the opening and a fastener region disposed about the opening, spaced apart from the flap; and    the magnetic fastener includes a first magnet disposed in the flap and a second magnet disposed in the fastener region such that the first and second magnets engage one another to at least partially shut the opening.    
   
   
       3 . A head cover as defined in  claim 1 , wherein: 
 the magnetic fastener includes first and second magnetic strips, each disposed in corresponding elongated edges positioned about the opening of the cover body; and    the first and second magnetic strips can engage one another to at least partially shut the opening.    
   
   
       4 . A head cover as defined in  claim 3 , wherein the magnetic strips each comprise a plurality of magnets.  
   
   
       5 . A head cover as defined in  claim 4 , wherein the magnetic strips each comprise at least four magnets disposed in a conforming sleeve.  
   
   
       6 . A head cover as defined in  claim 1 , wherein the cover body comprise a cushioned inner liner and an outer cover.  
   
   
       7 . A head cover as defined in  claim 6 , wherein: 
 the cover body includes a pair of elongated edges disposed on opposing sides of the opening that at least partially define the opening, when unengaged;    the magnetic fastener includes a pair of magnetic strips disposed the elongated edges of cover body such that the first and second magnetic strips engage one another to at least partially shut the opening.    
   
   
       8 . A head cover as defined in  claim 6 , wherein the head cover further comprises a metal wire disposed within piping defined by the outer cover.  
   
   
       9 . A head cover as defined in  claim 6 , wherein: 
 the cover body includes a flap disposed about the opening and having a magnetic region disposed about the opening, spaced apart from the flap; and    the magnetic fastener includes a first magnet disposed in the flap and a second magnet disposed in the magnetic region such that the first and second magnets engage one another to at least partially shut the opening.    
   
   
       10 . A head cover for golf club comprising: 
 a cover body having an inner liner and an outer cover, both formed essentially of flexible, non-rigid material defining an compartment to accommodate a head of a golf club and defining an opening of sufficient size for the head of the golf club to be inserted into and removed from the inner compartment; and    a magnetic fastener having first and second magnetic portions spaced apart from one another adjacent to the opening such that the first and second magnetic portions can engage one another to at least partially shut the opening.    
   
   
       11 . A head cover as defined in  claim 10 , wherein: 
 the cover body includes 
 a flap disposed about the opening having the first magnetic portion disposed therein, and  
 a fastener region disposed about the opening, spaced apart from the flap,  
   and having the second magnetic portion disposed therein; and    the flap overlaps the fastener region such that the first and second magnets engage one another to at least partially shut the opening.    
   
   
       12 . A head cover as defined in  claim 10 , wherein: 
 the cover body comprises a pair of elongated edges disposed on opposing sides of the opening that at least partially define the opening, when unengaged; and    the first and second magnetic portions are magnetic strips disposed in the elongated edges of cover body such that the magnetic strips can engage one another to at least partially secure the opening.    
   
   
       13 . A head cover as defined in  claim 12 , wherein the magnetic strips each comprise a plurality of magnets.  
   
   
       14 . A head cover as defined in  claim 12 , wherein the magnetic strips each comprise a plurality of magnets disposed in heat shrink tubing.  
   
   
       15 . A head cover as defined in  claim 14 , wherein the pair of elongated edges are defined by a pair of elastic cords attached to the inner liner and the outer cover, the elastic cords having the magnetic strips disposed therein.
