Abstract

An apparatus to aid in the accurate installation of a frame by establishing a required gap and alignment is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a block of material with pre-determined dimensions related to the standard or custom dimensions of the frame and standard or custom dimensions of a subsequent stud and dry wall to be installed. The block of material has a slot running along the length of at least one side with the slot having a pre-determined depth and width corresponding to standard or custom dimensions of an outer lip of the frame to be installed for fitting the block of material onto the outer lip. A securing system for temporarily securing the block of material to the outer lip is also provided. The slot is offset from an edge of the block of material by a distance corresponding to the required gap and alignment to be established.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A method for installing a frame including:
installing a wall track on a floor; positioning a slot in a side of a block onto a lip of a frame; and installing said frame with at least a portion of said block between said lip of said frame and said wall track, wherein said block maintains a predetermined gap between said lip of said frame and said wall track.

2 . The method of claim 1 wherein said predetermined gap is a wall thickness.

3 . The method of claim 2 wherein said wall thickness is a standard drywall thickness.

4 . The method of claim 2 wherein said wall thickness is one of ½″, ⅝″, ¾″, 1″ or 1¼″.

5 . The method of claim 1 wherein said predetermined gap is greater than a wall thickness.

6 . The method of claim 1 wherein said frame is one of a doorframe or a window frame.

7 . The method of claim 1 wherein said wall thickness includes single or multiple layers of wall material.

8 . A method for installing a frame and a wall panel including:
installing a wall track on a floor; positioning a removable block onto a frame, wherein a lip of said frame seats within a slot in a side of said removable block; and installing said frame with a predetermined gap between said lip and said wall track, wherein a portion of said removable block maintains said predetermined gap between said lip and said wall track.

9 . The method of claim 8 further including removing said removable block after installing said frame and installing a wall panel, wherein a portion of said wall panel seats within said gap between said lip and said wall track.

10 . The method of claim 8 further including removing said removable block after installing said frame and positioning an edge of a wall panel between said lip and said wall track.

11 . The method of claim 9 wherein said wall panel is a drywall panel.

       12 . The method of claim 11 wherein said drywall panel has a thickness of ½″, ⅝″, ¾″, 1″ or 1¼″.

13 . The method of claim 8 wherein said predetermined gap is greater than the thickness of a wall panel.

14 . The method of claim 8 wherein said predetermined gap is greater than the thickness of a drywall panel.

15 . The method of claim 8 wherein said frame is a doorframe or a window frame.

16 . A method for installing a frame and a wall panel including:
installing a stud; positioning a removable block onto a frame, wherein a lip of said frame seats within a slot in a side of said removable block; and installing said frame with a predetermined gap between said lip and said stud, wherein a portion of said removable block maintains said predetermined gap between said lip and said stud.

17 . The method of claim 16 wherein said predetermined gap is greater than a wall thickness.

18 . The method of claim 16 wherein said predetermined gap equals a wall thickness.

19 . The method of claim 16 wherein said predetermined gap is sized to permit an edge of a drywall panel to be inserted between said lip and said stud.

20 . The method of claim 16 further including removing said removable block after installing said frame and installing a wall panel, wherein a portion of said wall panel seats within said predetermined gap between said lip and said stud.
