Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
- 15 . (canceled)

A composition comprising collagen type II and having an average molecular weight of between about 45,000 and 65,000 daltons.

The composition of claim 16 wherein the collagen type II is derived from avian sternal cartilage.

The composition of claim 17 wherein the sternal cartilage is from 4-8 week old chicks.

The composition of claim 16 wherein the collagen type II is mammalian.

The composition of claim 16 wherein the collagen type II is from shark fins.

The composition of claim 16 is in powder form.

The composition of claim 16 wherein the composition includes 65% to 70% collagen type II.

The composition of claim 22 wherein the composition includes 20% to 30% carbohydrate.

The composition of claim 22 wherein the composition includes 1% to 3% lipids.

A method for treating an individual with a connective tissue disorder comprising administering to said individual a composition comprising collagen type II and having an average molecular weight of between about 45,000 and 65,000 daltons.

The method of claim 25 wherein the composition is in powder form.

The method of claim 25 wherein said connective tissue disorder is selected from the group consisting of degenerative joint diseases, joint defects, osteoarthritis, polychondritis, vascular disease, cartilage injuries, silicone poisoning, autoimmune diseases, progressive myopia, and menier's disease.

The method of claim 25 further comprising the step of administering the composition in a daily dosage of between about 600 mg. and 10,000 mg.

The method of claim 28 wherein the daily dosage is between about 1,200 mg. and 7,200 mg.

The method of claim 28 wherein the daily dosage is between 2,400 mg. and 3,600 mg.

A method of providing a nutritional supplement to an individual comprising administering a composition comprising collagen type II and having an average molecular weight of between about 45,000 and 65,000 daltons.

The method of claim 31 wherein the composition is in powder form.

The method of claim 31 further comprising the step of administering the composition in a daily dosage of between about 600 mg. and 10,000 mg.

The method of claim 33 wherein the daily dosage is between about 3,600 mg. and 7,200 mg.

The method of claim 33 wherein the daily dosage is between about 2,400 mg. and 3,600 mg.
