The adjustment device has two pivoting seats, which are fastened at an interval to the waist area of the backrest of the chair and are provided with a pivoting arm, a toothed wheel, a hinged tongue, and a recovery piece. The waistrest pad is mounted on the pivoting arm of the pivoting seats. The pivoting arm is located in a step-by-step manner by the hinged tongue whose tip engages the notches of the toothed wheel.
