Abstract
A disc holder formed from a base layer of material and a top layer of material that has a surface area less than the base layer, the layers being adhered and arranged to provide that the trim edge is free of the top layer upon trimming thereby preventing contamination of a manufacturer's recycling process.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A disc holder suitable for binding, comprising top and base layers of material each having a generally flat surface and being adhered together wherein said top layer has a surface area less than said base layer and the trim edges of said top layer of said holder are within the trim edges of said base layer of said holder.
2 . The disc holder as described in claim 1 wherein said trim edge comprises two or more sides of said holder.
3 . The disc holder as described in claim 1 wherein said layers are adhered together substantially on all sides other than one insertion side to form a pocket between said top and base layers and wherein said top and base layers are adhered along a portion of said insertion side.
4 . The disc holder as described in claim 3 wherein said layers are adhered with a partial glue line along a portion of said insertion side and the unadhered portion is sufficient to permit the insertion of a data disc between said top and base layers into said pocket after adhesion of said layers.
5 . The disc holder as described in claim 4 wherein said partial glue line on said insertion side extends at an angle away from said insertion side to form a retaining glue line.
6 . The disc holder as described in claim 1 wherein said top layer is a transparent plastic film and said base layer is paper.
7 . The disc holder as described in claim 6 wherein said top and base layers are adhered together using an ultraviolet glue that is cured by exposure to an ultraviolet light.
8 . The disc holder as described in claim 3 wherein said insertion side is located on the same side as the binding edge of said holder.
9 . The disc holder as described in claim 2 wherein said binding edge is roughened prior to binding.
10 . The disc holder as described in claim 1 wherein said holder has four sides and is square or rectangular in shape.
11 . The disc holder as described in claim 1 wherein said top layer is die-cut to have a zipper tab capable of opening said top layer to access said pocket.
12 . A method for forming a disc holder suitable for binding having top and base layers of material each having a generally flat surface wherein said top layer has a surface area less than said base layer and the trim edge of said top layer of said holder is within the trim edge of said bottom layer of said holder, comprising the steps of:
a) providing top and base layers of material; b) adhering said layers of materials.
13 . The method of claim 12 further comprising the step of:
c) inserting a data disc into said pocket.
14 . A method of binding, into a publication, a disc holder suitable for binding having top and base layers of material each having a generally flat surface wherein said top layer has a surface area less than said base layer and the trim edge of said top layer of said holder is within the trim edge of said bottom layer of said holder, comprising the steps of:
a) providing the top and base layers of material; b) adhering said layers of material; c) inserting a data disc into said pocket; d) providing at least one other signature; e) gathering said holder with said at least one other signature; f) binding said holder and said at least one other signature to form said publication.
15 . The method of claim 14 further comprising the step of:
(g) trimming said publication to remove the trim edge portion of said publication and said holder.
