Claims

Abstract

For obtaining both high brightness under condition of small-sized and simplified structure and suppression of increase in temperature of liquid crystal display elements and polarizing elements, in a liquid crystal display apparatus, comprising: a liquid crystal display element 2 for converting light from a light source into display picture depending on a driving signal; an optical projection system 1 b containing a first optical element 1 a and for projecting said light signal toward an object of projection; exit side polarizing elements 3 b ; a holding member 6 for holding them with the liquid crystal display element 2 ; and cooling medium 5 ; incident side polarizing elements 3 a , wherein, a space is defined by either one of the incident side polarizing elements 3 a and the liquid crystal display element 2 , the first optical element 1 a , between the liquid crystal display element 2 and the first optical element 1 a, and the holding member 6 , and said space is filled up with the cooling medium 5.

       62 . A liquid crystal display apparatus, comprising: 
 an optical source system for emitting projection light;    a liquid crystal display element arranged to receive the projection light from said optical source system and to generate a projection picture depending upon a driver signal;    a cooling medium;    a member to absorb a change of the volume caused by a change of the temperature of said cooling medium; and    a projection optical system arranged to compose and project the light emitted from said liquid crystal display element towards a projection object,    wherein said cooling medium is filled up in a space defined surrounding said liquid crystal display element.

A liquid crystal display apparatus according to  claim 62 , wherein said optical source system comprises a light polarization conversion element for converting polarization of a light projected from said light source so as to emit said projection light with one polarization direction.  
   
   
       64 . A liquid crystal display apparatus according to  claim 62 , wherein said cooling medium is a light-transmissive liquid having an index of refraction of at least 1.2 and not more than 1.7.  
   
   
       65 . A liquid crystal display apparatus, comprising: 
 an optical source system for emitting projection light;    a liquid crystal display portion, arranged to receive the projection light from said optical source system and to generate a projection picture depending upon a driver signal; and    a projection optical system arranged to compose and project the light emitted from said liquid crystal display portion towards a projection object,    wherein:    said projection optical system has an optical element to project the light;    said liquid crystal display portion comprises:    a liquid crystal display element for generating the picture;    an incident side polarizing element positioned at an incident side of said liquid crystal display element;    an exit side polarizing element positioned at an exit side of said liquid crystal display element;    a holding member arranged to hold at least said liquid crystal display element, said incident side polarizing element and said optical element;    a cooling medium; and    a member to absorb a change of the volume caused by a change of the temperature of said cooling medium, and    wherein, in said liquid crystal display portion, said holding member defines a space between either of said incident side polarizing element or said liquid crystal display element and said optical element, and said cooling medium is filled up within said space.

A liquid crystal display apparatus according to  claim 65 , wherein said optical source system comprises a light polarization conversion element for converting polarization of a light projected from said light source so as to emit said projection light with one polarization direction.  
   
   
       67 . A liquid crystal display apparatus according to  claim 65 , wherein said cooling medium is a light-transmissive liquid having an index of refraction of at least 1.2 and not more than 1.7.  
   
   
       68 . A liquid crystal display apparatus comprising: 
 an optical source system for emitting projection light;    a plurality of liquid crystal display portions, arranged to receive the projection light from said optical source system and to generate a projection picture depending upon a driver signal; and    a projection optical system arranged to compose and project the light emitted from said plurality of liquid crystal display portions towards a projection object,    wherein:    said optical source system has a light source and an optical separation system for dividing the light from the light source and emitting the light towards said plurality of liquid crystal display portions;    said projection optical system has a first optical element arranged to compose lights emitted from said plurality of liquid crystal display portions and a second optical element for projecting the composed light; and    each of said liquid crystal display portions comprises:    a liquid crystal display element;    an incident side polarizing element positioned at an incident side of said liquid crystal display element;    an exit side polarizing element positioned at an exit side of said liquid crystal display element;    a holding member arranged to hold at least said liquid crystal display element, said incident side polarizing element and either of said first optical element or said second optical element;    a cooling medium; and    a member to absorb a change of the volume caused by a change of the temperature of said cooling medium,    wherein said holding member is arranged in common for each of said plurality of liquid crystal display portions, and in each of said liquid crystal display portions, said holding member defines a space between either of said incident side polarizing element or said liquid crystal display element and either of said first optical element or said second optical element as one space in common for each of said plurality of liquid crystal display portions, and said cooling medium is filled up within said space and cools each of said liquid crystal display portion.

A liquid crystal display apparatus according to  claim 68 , wherein said optical source system comprises a light polarization conversion element for converting polarization of a light projected from said light source so as to emit said projection light with one polarization direction.  
   
   
       70 . A liquid crystal display apparatus according to  claim 68 , wherein said cooling medium is a light-transmissive liquid having an index of refraction of at least 1.2 and not more than 1.7.
