Abstract
A composition is provided for MOC that contains compounds with the structure: wherein R 1 is a hydrogen, an alkyl, an alkoxy, or a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group; R 2 is an alkyl having greater than 6 carbons, a substituted aryl, or unsubstituted aryl. Preferably these compounds have a low odor intensity. These compounds may be used with other MOC ingredients that act synergistically or additively with them.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A composition comprising a Class A compound of the formula:
wherein
R 1 is an hydrogen, an alkyl, an alkoxy, a substituted or unsubstituted aryl; and
R 2 is an alkyl having more than 6 carbon atoms, an aryl or a substituted aryl, and the Class A compound exhibits a malodor counteractancy (MOC) effect.
2 . A composition according to claim 1 wherein R 1 is an H, a C1 to C8 alkyl, a C1 to C8 alkoxy, or aryl; and R 2 is a C6 to C12 alkyl or an aryl.
3 . A composition according to claim 1 wherein the Class A compound has an Odor Value of less than 1000.
4 . A composition according to claim 3 wherein the Class A compound has an Odor Value of less than 500.
5 . A composition according to claim 1 further comprising a Class B MOC compound, wherein the total MOC effect of the composition is additive.
6 . A composition according to claim 5 wherein the composition has an Odor Value of less than 1000.
7 . A composition according to claim 6 wherein the composition has an Odor Value of less than 500.
8 . A composition according to claim 5 wherein the Class B compound is dihexyl fumerate.
9 . A composition according to claim 5 wherein the Class B compound is geranyl crotonate.
10 . A composition according to claim 5 wherein the Class B compound is a mixture of dihexyl fumerate and geranyl crotonate.
11 . A composition according to claim 5 wherein the MOC compounds are present in at least 0.01% (wt) in a formulation containing no fragrance.
12 . A composition according to claim 11 wherein the MOC compounds are present at 0.025% (wt) in a formulation containing no fragrance.
13 . A composition according to claim 5 further comprising a fragrance.
14 . A composition according to claim 13 wherein the fragrance has a MOC effect.
15 . A composition according to claim 13 wherein the MOC compounds are present in the composition at greater than 1% (wt) of the fragrance.
16 . A composition according to claim 15 wherein the MOC compounds are present in the composition at greater than 5% (wt) of the fragrance.
17 . A composition according to claim 1 further comprising an antimicrobial agent.
18 . A composition according to claim 1 further comprising a malodor absorber.
19 . A process for dispersing a malodor counteractancy (MOC) composition into a space comprising:
(a) incorporating into a consumer product a MOC composition comprising a Class A compound of the formula: wherein
R 1 is an hydrogen, an alkyl, an alkoxy, a substituted or unsubstituted aryl; and
R 2 is an alkyl having more than 6 carbon atoms, an aryl or a substituted aryl; and
(b) dispersing an effective amount of the consumer product to achieve a MOC effect in the space.
20 . A process according to claim 19 wherein the dispersing step is selected from the group consisting of spraying, atomizing, and volatilization.
21 . A process according to claim 19 wherein the space is selected from the group consisting of rooms, closets, chests, and draws.
22 . A process for imparting a MOC effect to a substrate comprising:
(a) contacting a substrate with a consumer product comprising a Class A compound of the formula: wherein
R 1 is an hydrogen, an alkyl, an alkoxy, a substituted or unsubstituted aryl; and
R 2 is an alkyl having more than 6 carbon atoms, an aryl or a substituted aryl, which Class A compound has a MOC effect.
23 . A process according to claim 22 wherein the substrate is skin or hair.
24 . A process according to claim 23 wherein the consumer product is selected from the group consisting of soap, syndet, combination soap and syndet personal wash bars, personal wash liquids, personal wipes, lotions, oils, shampoos, conditioners, styling sprays, mousses, gels, hair wipes, hair pomades, talcum powder, deodorant sprays, soft solids and solids, and antiperspirant sprays, soft solids, and solids.
25 . A process according to claim 22 wherein the consumer product is selected from the group consisting of fabric washing liquids, fabric washing powders, fabric conditioners, dishwashing liquids, dishwashing powders, hard surface cleaning liquids, hard surface cleaning powders, aqueous sprays, and non-aqueous sprays.
26 . A fragrance composition comprising:
(a) a Class A compound having a malodor counteractancy (MOC) effect of the formula: wherein
R 1 is an hydrogen, an alkyl, an alkoxy, a substituted or unsubstituted aryl; and
R 2 is an alkyl having more than 6 carbon atoms, an aryl or a substituted; and
(b) a fragrance.
27 . A fragrance composition according to claim 26 further comprising a Class B compound having a malodor counteractancy effect, wherein the MOC effect of the Class A and B compounds is at least additive.
28 . A fragrance composition according to claim 26 wherein the Class A compound is selected from the group consisting of
