Abstract
A file folder ( 1 ) including a first ( 2 ) and second ( 3 ) rectangular panel, said panels ( 2, 3 ) joined along a common first edge defining a folding line ( 4 ), a projecting portion ( 7 ) integral with the first panel ( 2 ) and proximate a second edge ( 5 ) of the first panel, said projecting portion ( 7 ) oriented relative to a plane defined by the first panel so as to display a viewing face ( 8 ) of the projecting portion at an angle of at least 20 degrees to the first panel, said projecting panel having a complementary shape so as to permit interleaving of a plurality of the file folders.

A file folder including a first and second rectangular panel, said panels joined along a common first edge defining a folding line, a projecting portion integral with the first panel and proximate a second edge of the first panel, said projecting portion oriented relative to a plane defined by the first panel so as to display a viewing face of the projecting portion at an angle of at least 20° to the first panel, said projecting panel having a complementary shape so as to permit interleaving of a plurality of the file folders, for storage and/or transport.
2 . The file folder according to claim 1 , wherein the angle is in the range of 20° to 90°.
3 . The file folder according to claim 2 , wherein the angle is in the range 30° to 80°.
4 . The file folder according to claim 1 , wherein the projecting portion is an extension of the first panel.
5 . The file folder according to claim 4 , wherein at least part of the projecting portion and the first panel are integral and manufactured from a single sheet.
6 . The file folder according to claim 1 wherein the projecting portion has a greater shear force capacity compared to the first panel.
7 . The file folder according to claim 6 , wherein the increase in shear capacity of the projecting portion as compared to the first panel is achieved through reinforcement of the projecting portion.
8 . The file folder according to claim 7 , wherein the reinforcement is any one or a combination of fibre reinforcement, polymer film, or a thickened portion of a parent material from which both the first panel and projecting portion are made.
9 . The file folder according to claim 8 , wherein the thickened portion is created by doubling, tripling or more, the thickness of the parent material through folding back an additional part of the projecting portion.
10 . The file folder according to claim 1 , wherein the projecting portion is oriented at the angle to the first panel through folding along a parallel line to the second edge.
11 . The file folder according to claim 10 , wherein the parallel line is at the interface between the projecting portion and the first panel.
12 . The file folder according to claim 1 , wherein the projecting portion is curved, the plane defined by the first panel being substantial tangential to the curve.
13 . The file folder according to claim 1 , wherein the projecting portion is adapted to act as a handle so as to assist in the removal of the file folder from a filing system.
14 . The file folder according to claim 13 , wherein the projecting portion is reinforced in a direction at right angles to the second edge so as to increase the tensile capacity of the projecting portion as compared to the first panel.
15 . The file folder according to claim 1 , wherein the projecting portion in use projects from the second edge of the first panel to a point beyond a corresponding second edge of the second panel, so as to cover the corresponding second edge when viewed from the viewing face side of the projecting portion.
16 . The file folder according to claim 1 , wherein the interface between the projecting portion and the first panel includes a hinge means.
17 . The file folder according to claim 1 , wherein the second edge is parallel to the folding line of the file folder.
18 . The file folder according to claim 1 , wherein the second edge is at right angles to the folding line of the file folder.
19 . A filing system including a plurality of file folders, each folder in the filing system including first and second rectangular panels, said panels joined along a common first edge, which define a folding line, a projecting portion integral with the first panel and proximate a second edge of the first panel, said projecting portion oriented relative to a plane defined by the first panel so as to display a viewing face of the projecting portion at an angle of at least 20° to the first angle, said projecting portion having a complementary shape so as to permit interleaving of a plurality of new file folders.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
