Chair assembly

Abstract

A chair assembly is provided which includes a frame, and a support member a support member is attached to the frame for defining a seat portion, a transition portion and a back portion. The frame is selectively movable between a collapsed position and an operative position, in the operative position a portion of the frame supporting the back portion of the support member is substantially vertically disposed and extends upward to the back portion of the support member. The chair assembly further includes an elongated member detachably connected to the substantially vertically disposed portion of the frame when the frame is in the operative position and an umbrella. A distal end portion of the shaft of the umbrella is pivotally connected to an upper end of the elongated member via a pivot assembly such that the umbrella can be selectively disposed in predetermined positions relative to the frame of the chair assembly.

What is claimed:  
     
         1 . A chair assembly comprising: 
 a frame;    a support member attached to the frame for defining a seat portion, a transition portion and a back portion, the frame selectively movable between a collapsed position and an operative position, in the operative position a portion of the frame supporting the back portion of the support member is substantially vertically disposed and extends upward to the back portion of the support member;    an umbrella, a shaft of the umbrella having a distal end portion; and    a pivot assembly for detachably connecting the distal end portion of the shaft of the umbrella to an upper of the elongated member such that the umbrella can be selectively disposed in predetermined positions relative to the frame of the chair assembly.    
     
     
         2 . The chair assembly of  claim 1  wherein the pivot assembly comprises: 
 a first locking member connected to an upwardly extending end of the elongated member;  
 a second locking member;  
 a tubular extension member connected to the second locking member, the tubular extension member adapted to receive the distal end portion of the shaft of the umbrella; and  
 means for connecting the first locking member to the second locking member whereby the umbrella connected to the tubular extension member of the second locking member is disposed in a desired relationship relative to the position of the frame of the chair assembly.  
 
     
     
         3 . The chair assembly of  claim 2  wherein the first locking member is provided with a threaded bore extending there through and plurality of teeth disposed about a peripheral surface thereof and wherein the second locking member is provided threaded bore and a plurality of teeth disposed about a peripheral surface thereof, the plurality of teeth of the first locking member adapted to mesh with the plurality of teeth of the second locking member and the threaded bore of extending through the first locking member alignable with the threaded bore in the second locking member when the first and second locking members are disposed substantially adjacent one another, and wherein the means for connecting the first locking member to the second locking member comprises a knob having a threaded shank, the threaded shank threadably positionable within the threaded bores of the first and second members for securing the first and second locking members together.  
     
     
         4 . The chair assembly of  claim 3  wherein the frame includes a plurality of legs for supporting the seat portion of the support member a distance above the ground, and wherein frame further comprises a plurality of shoes having a lower plainer surface, one shoe connected to a distal end of each of the legs for providing stability to the frame when the frame is in the operative position.  
     
     
         5 . The chair assembly of  claim 4  wherein the frame assembly further comprises a left armrest and a right armrest.  
     
     
         6 . The chair assembly of  claim 5  wherein the frame includes a back support frame comprising a right upright member and a left upright member, and wherein the elongated member is detachably connected to one the right and upright member and left upright member when the collapsible chair is in the operative position.  
     
     
         7 . The chair assembly of  claim 6  wherein one the legs of the frame extends from a right forward shoe at an angle such that an upper portion of such leg defines a left arm support for the left armrest, and wherein another of the legs extends from a left forward shoe at an angle such that an upper portion of such leg defines a right arm support for the right armrest.  
     
     
         8 . The chair assembly of  claim 7  wherein the frame further includes a back support frame which is connected to two rearward shoes of the frame such that the back support frame extends upwardly therefrom, and wherein the elongated member is detachably connected to the back support frame.  
     
     
         9 . The chair assembly of  claim 8  wherein the shaft of the umbrella is provided with a plurality of sections which are telescopically disposable within one another when the shaft is in retracted position.  
     
     
         10 . The chair assembly of  claim 8  furthering comprising a net disposed over the umbrella so as the encompass the umbrella and the frame.  
     
     
         11 . The chair assembly of  claim 8  further comprises a battery operated lamp detachably connected to the shaft of the umbrella.  
     
     
         12 . The chair assembly comprising: 
 a frame selectively movable between an extended position and a collapsed position, the frame comprising: 
 a plurality of legs;  
 a plurality of shoes, one shoe connected to a distal end of each of the legs for providing stability to the frame, one of the legs of the frame extending from a right forward shoe at an angle such that an upper portion of such leg defines a left arm support, another of the legs extends from a left forward shoe at an angle such that an upper portion of such leg defines a right arm support:  
 a back support frame comprising a first upright member and a second upright member, the right upright member connected to a right rearward shoe so as extend upwardly therefrom and the left upright member connected to the left rearward shoe so as to extend upwardly therefrom;  
 a left armrest connected to and extending between the right arm support and the right upright member;  
 a left arm support extending between the left upright member of the back support, the right armrest having a plurality of holes extending along the length thereof;  
   an umbrella support member connected to a portion of the frame such that the umbrella support member extends between the rearward right shoe and the forward right shoe, the umbrella support member having a plurality of holes extending substantially along the length thereof;    a support member attached to the frame for defining a seat portion, a transition portion and a back portion such that in the operative position of the frame the seat portion is disposed a distance above the supporting surface of the frame and the back support frame supports the back portion of the support member in a substantially vertical portion; and    an umbrella having a shaft, the shaft sized to be disposed through a selected hole in the right armrest and a selected hole of the umbrella support member such that upon positioning the shaft of the umbrella through selected holes in the armrest and the umbrella support member, the umbrella is stabilized relative to the frame, and the umbrella can be selectively disposed in predetermined positions relative to the frame of the chair assembly.
