Lightweight roofing slate
Abstract
A lightweight roofing slate that is resistant to the pressure of high forced winds. The roofing slate is preferably made from autoclaved aerated concrete that is lightweight, fireproof, termite proof and can withstand hurricane force winds when properly mounted to a roof. Roofing slates are applied to the roof in an overlapping formation. An adhesive material is applied to the bottom surface of each roofing slate so that the overlapping roofing slate is secured to the top surface of the adjacent roofing slate and each roofing slate is further secured to the roof. A nontoxic, water based sealer is applied to the top surface of the roofing slates after they are secured to the roof.

1 . A wind resistant roof slate assembly comprising:
a plurality of generally rectangular, lightweight overlapping roof slates, each of said roof slates comprising a mounting end, a distal end, a top surface and a bottom surface; a plurality of windlock anchors for directly securing the mounting end of said roof slates to a roof of a building, where said windlock anchors extend through the mounting end into the roof to provide a wind resistant connection; and a water based sealer applied to the top surface of said roof slate; wherein said roof slates are disposed on the roof so that the distal end of a first of said roof slates overlaps the mounting end of an adjacent roof slate.
2 . The assembly according to claim 1 , further comprising a weatherproof underlayment disposed on the top surface of the roof wherein the mounting end of said roof slates are mounted to the underlayment by the windlock anchors.
3 . The assembly according to claim 2 , wherein said weatherproof underlayment comprises a granular felt layer.
4 . The assembly according to claim 1 , wherein said windlock anchor comprises a screw fastener with a plastic washer.
5 . The assembly according to claim 1 , further comprising an adhesive layer disposed on the bottom surface of said roof slates to further secure the mounting end of said roof slates to the roof and to secure the overlapping distal end of said roof slates to the top surface of an adjacent roof slate.
6 . The assembly according to claim 5 , wherein said adhesive layer is selected from the group consisting of mortars, thinset adhesives and foam adhesives.
7 . The assembly according to claim 1 , wherein said sealer is selected from the group consisting of cement wash nontoxic sealers and elastomeric coatings.
8 . The assembly according to claim 1 , wherein said roofing slates comprise autoclaved aerated concrete roofing slates.
9 . A wind resistant roof slate assembly comprising:
a plurality of generally rectangular,. lightweight overlapping roof slates, each of said roof slates comprising a mounting end, a distal end, a top surface and a bottom surface; an adhesive layer applied to the bottom surface of said roof slates to further secure the mounting end of said roof slates to the roof and to secure the overlapping distal end of said roof slates to the top surface of an adjacent roof slate; a plurality of windlock anchors for directly securing the mounting end of said roof slates to a roof of a building, where said windlock anchors extend through the mounting end into the roof to provide a wind resistant connection; and a water based sealer applied to the top surface of said roof slate; wherein said roof slates are disposed on the roof so that the distal end of a first of said roof slates overlaps the mounting end of an adjacent roof slate.
10 . The assembly according to claim 9 , further comprising a weatherproof underlayment disposed on the top surface of the roof wherein the mounting end of said roof slates are mounted to the underlayment by the windlock anchors.
11 . The assembly according to claim 10 , wherein said weatherproof underlayment comprises a granular felt layer.
12 . The assembly according to claim 9 , wherein said windlock anchor comprises a screw fastener with a plastic washer.
13 . The assembly according to claim 9 , wherein said adhesive layer is selected from the group consisting of mortars, thinset adhesives and foam adhesives.
