Abstract

The present invention composition is a nonflammable petrolatum-based synthetic lubricant which includes an extreme pressure additive for additional lubricating properties. The composition comprises, in percent by weight: approximately 4% carbon dioxide, as a propellant; approximately 0.125% SARKOSYL O; approximately 0.125% AMINE O; approximately 78% to approximately 81% trichloroethylene, approximately 10% to approximately 20% petrolatum; approximately 0.44% methyl salicylate, and approximately 0.5% to approximately 5% MONALUBE 225®. Preferably the composition of the present invention comprises approximately 1.5% MONALUBE 225®, and between approximately 78% to approximately 81% trichloroethylene.

Claims

2 . The lubricant composition as described in claim 1 , wherein the preferred concentration of MONALUBE 225® is approximately 1.5%.

3 . The lubricant composition as described in claim 2 , wherein the preferred concentration of trichloroethylene is between approximately 78% and about 81%.

4 . The lubricant composition as described in claim 3 , wherein the more preferred concentration of trichloroethylene is between approximately 78% and approximately 79%.

5 . The lubricant composition as described in claim 3 , wherein the preferred concentration of petrolatum is approximately 15%.

6 . The lubricant composition as described in claim 5 , wherein the composition is characterized by being nonflammable.

7 . A lubricant composition comprising, by weight:
approximately 4% carbon dioxide; approximately 0.3 to approximately 0.5% SARKOSYL O; approximately 0.05 to approximately 1% AMINE O; approximately 15% petrolatum; approximately 78 to 79% trichloroethylene; approximately 1.5% MONALUBE 225®; and approximately 0.44% methyl salicylate.

8 . A method for protecting metal surfaces against wear due to extreme pressure conditions, the method comprising the step of applying a lubricant composition to the metal surfaces, the composition comprising, by weight:
approximately 4% carbon dioxide; approximately 0.3 to approximately 0.5% SARKOSYL O; approximately 0.05 to approximately 1% AMINE O; approximately 10 to approximately 20% petrolatum; approximately 70 to approximately 90% trichloroethylene; approximately 1.0 to approximately 2.0% MONALUBE 225®; and approximately 0.44% methyl salicylate.

9 . The lubricant composition as described in claim 8 , wherein the preferred concentration of MONALUBE 225® is approximately 1.5%.

10 . The lubricant composition as described in claim 9 , wherein the preferred concentration of trichloroethylene is between approximately 78% and about 81%.

11 . The lubricant composition as described in claim 10 , wherein the more preferred concentration of trichloroethylene is between approximately 78% and approximately 79%.
