Adapter for hanger bolts

Abstract

An adapter for hanger bolts is disclosed that includes a hex head adapted for use in a receiving device, a socket head set screw having a thread, wherein the socket head set screw is set at least partially in a socket head set screw receptacle of the hex head, and a hanger bolt housing having a hanger bolt channel abutting an end of the socket head set screw receptacle.

What is claimed is:  
     
         1 . An adapter for hanger bolts comprising: 
 a hex head adapted for use in a receiving device;    a socket head set screw having a thread, wherein said socket head set screw is set at least partially in a socket head set screw receptacle of said hex head; and    a hanger bolt housing having a hanger bolt channel abutting an end of said socket head set screw receptacle.    
     
     
         2 . The adapter according to  claim 1  wherein said hex head has a first upper surface.  
     
     
         3 . The adapter according to  claim 2  wherein said first upper surface has a socket head set screw access opening.  
     
     
         4 . The adapter according to  claim 3  wherein said hex head further comprises an open-ended threaded socket head set screw receptacle.  
     
     
         5 . The adapter according to  claim 4  wherein said open-ended threaded socket head set screw receptacle at least partially enters said hanger bolt housing.  
     
     
         6 . The adapter according to  claim 5  wherein said open-ended threaded socket head set screw receptacle accommodates said socket head set screw.  
     
     
         7 . The adapter according to  claim 6  wherein said socket head set screw has a second upper surface.  
     
     
         8 . The adapter according to  claim 7  wherein said second upper surface further comprises a proximal adjustment point.  
     
     
         9 . The adapter according to  claim 8  wherein said proximal adjustment point is engaged to adjust a position of said socket head set screw within said open-ended threaded socket head set screw receptacle.  
     
     
         10 . The adapter according to  claim 9  wherein said proximal adjustment point is engaged to raise said socket head set screw within said open-ended threaded socket head set screw receptacle.  
     
     
         11 . The adapter according to  claim 9  wherein said proximal adjustment point is engaged to lower said socket head set screw within said open-ended threaded socket head set screw receptacle.  
     
     
         12 . The adapter according to  claim 1  wherein said socket head set screw is arranged to abut said hanger bolt.  
     
     
         13 . The adapter according to  claim 12  wherein said socket head set screw has a left-handed thread.  
     
     
         14 . The adapter according to  claim 1  wherein a ball bearing is moveably positioned between said socket head set screw and said end of said socket head set screw receptacle.  
     
     
         15 . The adapter according to  claim 1  wherein said hex head further comprises said hanger bolt housing.  
     
     
         16 . The adapter according to  claim 15  wherein said hanger bolt housing extends distally from said first upper surface.  
     
     
         17 . The adapter according to  claim 16  wherein said hanger bolt housing has a distal end.  
     
     
         18 . The adapter according to  claim 17  wherein said distal end has a hanger bolt access opening.  
     
     
         19 . The adapter according to  claim 18  wherein said hanger bolt access opening is oversized.  
     
     
         20 . The adapter according to  claim 19  wherein said hanger bolt access opening provides access to an interior of said hanger bolt housing.  
     
     
         21 . The adapter according to  claim 20  wherein said hanger bolt access opening extends at least partially proximally into said interior.  
     
     
         22 . The adapter according to  claim 21  wherein said interior has a threaded hanger bolt channel.  
     
     
         23 . The adapter according to  claim 22  wherein said threaded hanger bolt channel extends proximally from said oversized opening to said open-ended threaded socket head set screw receptacle.  
     
     
         24 . The adapter according to  claim 23  wherein said threaded hanger bolt channel accommodates said hanger bolt.  
     
     
         25 . The adapter according to  claim 24  wherein said hanger bolt is threaded.  
     
     
         26 . The adapter according to  claim 25  wherein said socket head set screw is in an abutting position relative to said hanger bolt.  
     
     
         27 . The adapter according to  claim 26  wherein said hanger bolt is drilled into a substrate.  
     
     
         28 . The adapter according to  claim 27  wherein said proximal adjustment point is engaged to raise said socket head set screw from said abutting position relative to said hanger bolt to a non-abutting position relative to said hanger bolt.  
     
     
         29 . The adapter according to  claim 28  wherein said hanger bolt is removed from said threaded hanger bolt channel.  
     
     
         30 . The adapter according to  claim 29  wherein said hanger bolt is removed by reverse-rotating said adapter.  
     
     
         31 . The adapter according to  claim 1  wherein said receiving device is selected from the group consisting of drills, speed wrenches, ratchets.
