Non-flammable polyolefin film

Abstract

The present invention is directed to a non-flammable and flame resistant polyolefin film. More specifically, the present invention is directed to a polyolefin containing a non halogen char forming additive to prevent flammability.

1 . A multi-layer molded structure having an outer layer of a polyolefin, 
 said outer layer containing a non-halogen intumescent additive package to prevent flammability.    
     
     
         2 . A non-flammable structure according to  claim 1  wherein said intumescent additive package is present in an amount between 10 and 50 weight percent of said outer layer polyolefin.  
     
     
         3 . A non-flammable structure according to  claim 2  wherein said outer layer of polyolefin is at least {fraction (1/32)}″ thick.  
     
     
         4 . A master batch comprising: 
 80-17 wt % polyolefin resin    20-80 wt % non-halogen flame retardant    0-3 wt % carbon black    
     
     
         5 . A master batch according to  claim 4  containing a non-halogen intumescent additive to prevent flammability.  
     
     
         6 . A master batch according to  claim 5  wherein said polyolefin resin is polyethylene.  
     
     
         7 . A polyolefin film comprising: 
 a polyolefin film containing a non-halogen intumescent additive package.    
     
     
         8 . A polyolefin film according to  claim 7  wherein said film is at least ⅛″ thick.
