Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A pharmaceutical composition for inhibiting matrix metalloproteinases containing a compound of the general formula (I), a prodrug, a pharmaceutically acceptable salt, or a solvate thereof as an active ingredient:
wherein R 1 is hydroxy;
R 2 is hydrogen, optionally substituted lower alkyl, optionally substituted aryl, or optionally substituted aralkyl;
R 3 is hydrogen, optionally substituted lower alkyl, optionally substituted aryl, or optionally substituted aralkyl;
R 4 is unsubstituted phenylene; and
R 5 is optionally substituted aryl.
2 . A compound of the following formula:
a prodrug, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt, or a solvate thereof.
3 . A pharmaceutical composition which contains as an active ingredient a compound as described in claim 1 .
4 . A pharmaceutical composition which contains as an active ingredient a compound as described in claim 2 .
5 . A method for inhibiting matrix metalloproteinases by administering to a mammal a therapeutically effective amount of a compound as described in claim 1 .
6 . A method for inhibiting matrix metalloproteinases by administering to a mammal a therapeutically effective amount of a compound as described in claim 2 .
7 . The method according to claim 5 wherein the mammal is a human.
8 . The method according to claim 6 wherein the mammal is a human.
9 . A method for treating lung cancer which comprises administering to a mammal a therapeutically effective amount of the compound of claim 1 .
