Abstract

A non-irritating skin cleanser that contains water, a non-ionic surfactant, and a glyceryl monoester of a fatty acid. The skin cleanser is especially useful for cleansing irritated, diseased, damaged, or sensitive skin. The cleanser is especially useful for cleansing hands.

What is claimed is:  
     
         1 . A skin cleanser comprising water, a non-ionic surfactant, and a glyceryl monoester of a fatty acid.  
     
     
         2 . The skin cleanser of  claim 1  wherein the monoester content of the glyceryl monoester is at least about 40% and the fatty acid component of the glyceryl monoester comprises fatty acids having a length of C8 to C22, wherein said fatty acids are not substantially dehydrogenated.  
     
     
         3 . The skin cleanser of  claim 2  wherein the glyceryl monoester is selected from the group consisting of glyceryl monolaurate and glyceryl monostearate.  
     
     
         4 . The skin cleanser of  claim 2  wherein the concentration of the glyceryl monoester is between about 0.1% and 5% by weight.  
     
     
         5 . The skin cleanser of  claim 2  wherein the non-ionic surfactant is selected from the group consisting of poloxamer and steareth.  
     
     
         6 . The skin cleanser of  claim 5  wherein the concentration of the non-ionic surfactant in the cleanser is between about 0.5 to about 10% w/w.  
     
     
         7 . The skin cleanser of  claim 6  wherein the concentration of the non-ionic surfactant in the cleanser is between about 1 to about 5% w/w.  
     
     
         8 . The skin cleanser of  claim 7  wherein the concentration of the non-ionic surfactant in the cleanser is between about 1.25% to about 2.5% w/w.  
     
     
         9 . The skin cleanser of  claim 5  wherein the poloxamer is Poloxamer 123.  
     
     
         10 . The skin cleanser of  claim 5  wherein the steareth is selected from the group consisting of steareth-2, steareth-21, and steareth 20.  
     
     
         11 . The skin cleanser of  claim 2  which further comprises a saturated fatty alcohol.  
     
     
         12 . The skin cleanser of  claim 11  wherein the saturated fatty alcohol is selected from the group consisting of cetyl alcohol and stearyl alcohol.  
     
     
         13 . The skin cleanser of  claim 12  wherein the concentration of saturated fatty alcohol in the cleanser is between about 0.25% to about 5% w/w.  
     
     
         14 . The skin cleanser of  claim 11  which further comprises a humectant.  
     
     
         15 . The skin cleanser of  claim 14  wherein the humectant is selected from the group consisting of glycerin and sorbitol.  
     
     
         16 . The skin cleanser of  claim 15  wherein the concentration of the humectant in the cleanser is between about 0.5% to about 15% w/w.  
     
     
         17 . The skin cleanser of  claim 2  wherein the viscosity of the cleanser is less than 17000 centipoise.  
     
     
         18 . The skin cleanser of  claim 2  which comprises the following ingredients: cetyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol, glycerin, sorbitol, benzyl alcohol, glyceryl monolaurate, steareth-21, steareth-2, and poloxamer 123.
