Agastache rugosa extract and composition containing tilianin isolated and purified from said extract having anti-inflammatory activity and anti-atherogenic activity

Abstract

A composition of Agastache rugosa and tilianin obtained by separation-purification for anti-inflammation and anti-atherosclerosis, and more particularly, an extract of Agastache rugosa and tilianin odtained therefrom by separation-purification which are effective in preventing and treating not only inflammatory diseases but also atherosclerosis related to inflammatory responses and disease in the circulatory system caused by atherosclerosis because they are excellent in inhibiting the activity of complement systems as a factor of inflammatory responses, the expression of intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) and vascular cell adhesion molecular-1 (VCAM-1), and the production of nitric oxide (NO). They can also significantly reduce the development of atherosclerosis due to the inflammatory response.

What is claimed is:  
     
         1 . A pharmaceutical composition comprising an extract of  Agastache rugosa  as an active ingredient.  
     
     
         2 . The pharmaceutical composition according to  claim 1 , wherein said extract contains a solvent fraction fractionated by n-hexane, chloroform, or n-butanol.  
     
     
         3 . The pharmaceutical composition according to  claim 1 , wherein said extract contains tilianin as an active ingredient.  
     
     
         4 . The pharmaceutical composition according to  claim 1  or  3 , wherein said composition has an inhibitory activity against complement system which is a factor in inflammatory responses.  
     
     
         5 . The pharmaceutical composition according to  claim 1  or  3 , wherein said composition can inhibit the expression of intercellular adhesion molecule-1.  
     
     
         6 . The pharmaceutical composition according to  claim 1  or  3 , wherein said composition can inhibit the production of nitrogen oxide.  
     
     
         7 . The pharmaceutical composition according to  claim 1  or  3 , wherein said composition has an anti-inflammatory activity as well as an anti-atherosclerotic activity.  
     
     
         8 . The composition of food additives including an extract of  Agastache rugosa  or tilianin obtained by separation-purification as active ingredients and having an anti-inflammatory activity as well as an anti-atherosclerotic activity.
