Garment hanger

Abstract

A garment hanger includes a hook portion and first and second arms, which extend outwardly from the hook portion for supporting an article of clothing. The hook portion has a generally C-shaped portion with an open side for receiving a support bar therethrough for mounting the garment hanger on the support bar. The hook portion is adapted to releasably engage the support bar and to be retained on the support bar even when the garment hanger is subject to vibration and/or movement relative to the support bar.

I claim:  
     
         1 . A garment hanger comprising: 
 a hook portion having a generally C-shaped portion with an open side for receiving a support bar therethrough;    first and second arms extending outwardly from said hook portion for supporting an article of clothing on said garment hanger; and    wherein said hook portion is adapted to further said open side for receiving the support bar therethrough and releasably retaining said hook portion on the support bar and to be retained on said support bar even when said garment hanger is subject to vibration or movement relative to the support bar.    
     
     
         2 . The garment hanger according to  claim 1 , wherein said first and second arms are angled downwardly with respect to said hook portion.  
     
     
         3 . The garment hanger according to  claim 1 , wherein said hook portion and said first and second arms are formed from a wire member.  
     
     
         4 . The garment hanger according to  claim 3 , wherein said wire member has a generally uniform thickness.  
     
     
         5 . The garment hanger according to  claim 4 , wherein said wire member comprises a plastic wire member.  
     
     
         6 . The garment hanger according to  claim 1 , wherein each of said first and second arms includes a recessed portion for receiving a strap of a garment.  
     
     
         7 . The garment hanger according to  claim 5 , wherein each of said first and second arms include a raised shoulder to provide lateral support to a garment hanging on said first and second arms.  
     
     
         8 . The garment hanger according to  claim 7 , wherein said recessed portions are located adjacent said raised shoulders.  
     
     
         9 . A garment hanger comprising: 
 a hook portion for engaging a support bar; and    first and second arms extending outwardly and downwardly from said hooked portion, each of said first and second arms having a support surface for hanging a garment on said first and second arms, and said hook portion forming a spring for releasably retaining said hook portion on the support bar.    
     
     
         10 . The garment hanger according to  claim 9 , wherein at least one of said first and second arms includes a raised shoulder, said raised shoulder forming a lateral support for a garment hanging on at least one of said first and second arms.  
     
     
         11 . The garment hanger according to  claim 10 , wherein each of said first and second arms includes said raised shoulder.  
     
     
         12 . The garment hanger according to  claim 9 , said arms including a pair of recesses for receiving a strap of a garment.  
     
     
         13 . The garment hanger according to  claim 9 , wherein said hook portion has a generally C-shaped portion with an open side for receiving the support bar therethrough.  
     
     
         14 . The garment hanger according to  claim 12 , wherein said hook portion further includes an engagement arm, said engagement arm opening said open side for receiving a support bar having a greater dimension than the dimension of said open side wherein the support bar is releasably captured in said C-shaped portion when said hook portion is mounted on the support bar.  
     
     
         15 . The garment hanger according to  claim 13 , wherein said engagement arm includes a cam surface, said cam surface for engaging the support bar when said garment hanger is being mounted on the support bar, and said cam surface urging said open side to open further when said hook portion is urged into engagement with the support bar.  
     
     
         16 . The garment hanger according to  claim 13 , wherein said engagement arm deflects to thereby open said open side.
