Equipment support for use with office cubicles

Abstract

The present invention provides a variety of devices suitable for mounting objects, including heavy objects, on a wall of a cubicle or similar structure. Some such devices are configured to support a flat-panel monitor for a computer, a television or a similar device. Some embodiments include a bracket which supports the device from the top of a cubicle wall. Some devices include a track with a plurality of sections, at least one of which is configured to slide within another section.

What is claimed is:  
     
         1 . A support apparatus for supporting an object from a cubicle wall, comprising: 
 a bracket for engaging a top surface edge of the cubicle wall;    a member, suspended from said bracket, for extending generally parallel to the cubicle wall; and    at least one adapter, coupled to said member, for mating to the object.    
     
     
         2 . The support apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein said bracket is adjustable to accommodate varying widths for the cubicle wall.  
     
     
         3 . The support apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein said member includes a track and wherein said adapter is slidably coupled to said track to permit height adjustment relative to said top surface edge of the cubicle wall.  
     
     
         4 . The support apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein said member includes a set of height-adjusting structures distributed along a length of said member and wherein said adapter is engageable with any structure of said set of structures to permit height adjustment relative to said top surface edge of the cubicle wall.  
     
     
         5 . The support apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein said member is telescoping.  
     
     
         6 . The support apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the track is extendable.  
     
     
         7 . The support apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the support comprises a mount for a computer peripheral device.  
     
     
         8 . The support apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the support comprises a mount for a flat-panel computer monitor.  
     
     
         9 . The support apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the bracket is slidably coupled with the member.  
     
     
         10 . The support apparatus of  claim 1 , further comprising a hinge for rotating the bracket.  
     
     
         11 . The support apparatus of  claim 5 , wherein said member includes an outer track and an inner track telescopable with said outer track.  
     
     
         12 . The support apparatus of  claim 5 , wherein said adapter is slidably coupled to said track to permit height adjustment relative to said top surface edge of the cubicle wall.  
     
     
         13 . The support apparatus of  claim 11 , wherein said adapter is slidably coupled to said track to permit height adjustment relative to said top surface edge of the cubicle wall.  
     
     
         14 . The support apparatus of  claim 13 , wherein said adapter has a first orientation in which it slidably engages said inner track and a second orientation different from said first orientation in which said adapter slidably engages said outer track.  
     
     
         15 . The support apparatus of  claim 14 , wherein said first orientation is orthogonal to said second orientation.  
     
     
         16 . An apparatus comprising: 
 a bracket configured to engage a top portion of a cubicle wall;    a track configured to be suspended from the bracket along the side of the cubicle wall; and    a mount for supporting a computer peripheral device, the mount configured to be attached to the track.    
     
     
         17 . The apparatus of  claim 16 , wherein the track is configured to attach the mount in a plurality of positions.  
     
     
         18 . The apparatus of  claim 16 , wherein the track is extendable.  
     
     
         19 . An apparatus comprising: 
 means for adjustably engaging with a top of a cubicle wall, the cubicle wall comprising a covering having a predetermined support capacity;    means for supporting an object having a weight in excess of the predetermined support capacity; and    means for positioning the supporting means adjacent to the cubicle wall, the positioning means comprising means for coupling with the engaging means.    
     
     
         20 . The apparatus of  claim 19 , further comprising means for rotating the engaging means.  
     
     
         21 . The apparatus of  claim 19 , wherein the engaging means comprises means for accommodating a plurality of cubicle wall shapes.  
     
     
         22 . A method comprising the steps of: 
 suspending a track from a top portion of a cubicle wall;    positioning the track along a side of the cubicle wall; and    attaching a support to a desired position on the track.    
     
     
         23 . A method comprising the steps of: 
 suspending an extendable track from a top portion of a cubicle wall;    positioning the extendable track along a side of the cubicle wall;    attaching a mount for a computer monitor to the track; and    extending the track, thereby moving the mount to a desired location.
