Abstract

A remote operated tool string deployment apparatus (RODA) is provided for use with a remote operation coil connector (ROCC) in a well intervention system. The ROCC enables the remote connection of intervention tool strings or bottom hole assemblies (BHA) to the coiled tubing where manually changing them is not possible.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

1 . A remote operated tool string deployment apparatus comprising:
means for sequentially engaging and removing a plurality of tool strings from a remote container; means for sequentially moving said tool strings away from said container and into a well bore; means within said well bore for sequentially receiving said tool strings and retaining said tool strings; means for sequentially disconnecting said tool strings from said engaging means within said well bore; and means for activating said tool strings within said well bore to perform a tool operating function.

2 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein said means for sequentially engaging and removing includes a coiled tubing.

3 . The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein said means for sequentially engaging and removing further includes a remote tool string connector.

4 . The apparatus of claim 3 , wherein said means for sequentially receiving and retaining includes a plurality of tool holders.

5 . The apparatus of claim 4 , wherein each of said tool holders includes a profile portion for engagement with a latching mechanism of said tool string connector.

6 . The apparatus of claim 5 , wherein said each of said tool holders further includes a release mechanism for remotely releasing said coiled tubing from said tool string connector to separate said tool string connector from said tool string.

7 . The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein said release mechanism includes means for radially, sequentially expanding and retracting a profile out of and into engagement with a corresponding abutting surface on said tool string connector.

8 . The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein said release mechanism further includes hydraulic actuation means.

9 . A remote operated tool string deployment apparatus comprising:
a coiled tubing and a remote tool string connector for sequentially engaging and removing a plurality of tool strings from a remote container; means for sequentially moving said tool strings away from said container and into a well bore; a plurality of tool holders within said well bore for sequentially receiving said tool strings and retaining said tool strings; means for sequentially disconnecting said tool strings from said tool string connector within said well bore; and means for activating said tool strings within said well bore to perform a tool operating function.

10 . The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein each of said tool holders includes a profile portion for engagement with a latching mechanism of said tool string connector.

11 . The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein each of said tool holders further includes a release mechanism for remotely releasing said coiled tubing from said tool string connector to separate said tool string connector from said tool string.

12 . The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein said release mechanism includes means for radially, sequentially expanding and retracting a profile out of and into engagement with a corresponding abutting surface on said tool string connector.

13 . The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein said release mechanism further includes hydraulic actuation means.
