Hair growth formulation

Abstract

The present invention relates to a formulation for promoting hair growth and preventing hair loss. Supplementation with the formulation promotes hair growth and increases the number of hairs in mammals. In one embodiment, a composition for promoting hair growth and reducing hair loss according to the present invention comprises mixed tocotrienols and a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient.

1 . A composition for promoting hair growth and reducing hair loss comprising mixed tocotrienols and a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient, wherein the minimum concentration of said mixed tocotrienols is about 0.1%.  
     
     
         2 . The composition of  claim 1 , further comprising about 23 i.u. of alpha-tocopherol and wherein said mixed tocotrienols are comprised of a mixture of α-, γ-, and δ-tocotrienols.  
     
     
         3 . The composition as in either  claim 1  or  claim 2 , wherein the amount of said mixed tocotrienols is about 50 mg.  
     
     
         4 . The composition as in either  claim 1  or  claim 2 , wherein said composition is administered in the form of an oral dosage.  
     
     
         5 . The composition of  claim 4 , wherein said oral dosage is in the form of a soft gelatin capsule.  
     
     
         6 . The composition of  claim 4 , wherein the oral administration of said composition is at a dosage of about 20 mg-1500 mg per day.  
     
     
         7 . The composition as in either  claim 1  or  claim 2 , wherein said composition is administered as a topical formulation selected from the group consisting of a cream, a lotion, an ointment, a gel, and a liquid.  
     
     
         8 . The composition of  claim 7 , wherein the concentration of said mixed tocotrienols is about 1.0%.  
     
     
         9 . A method of promoting hair growth and reducing hair loss in a mammal comprising administering a composition comprised of mixed tocotrienols and a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient, wherein the minimum concentration of said mixed tocotrienols is about 0.1%  
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 9 , wherein said mixed tocotrienols are comprised of a mixture of α-, γ-, and δ-tocotrienols.  
     
     
         11 . The method as in either  claim 9  or  claim 10 , wherein said composition further comprises about 23 i.u. of alpha-tocopherol.  
     
     
         12 . The method as in either  claim 9  or  claim 10 , wherein said composition is administered in the form of an oral dosage.  
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 12 , wherein said oral dosage is in the form of a soft gelatin capsule.  
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 12 , wherein the oral administration of said composition is at a dosage of about 20 mg-1500 mg per day.  
     
     
         15 . The method as in either  claim 9  or  claim 10 , wherein said composition is administered as a topical formulation selected from the group consisting of a cream, a lotion, an ointment, a gel, and a liquid.  
     
     
         16 . The method of  claim 15 , wherein the concentration of said mixed tocotrienols is about 1.0%.  
     
     
         17 . A composition for promoting hair growth and reducing hair loss comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient and a tocotrienol selected from the group consisting of α-, γ-, and δ-tocotrienols, wherein the concentration of said tocotrienol is about 0.1%.  
     
     
         18 . The composition of  claim 17 , further comprising about 23 i.u. of alpha-tocopherol.  
     
     
         19 . The composition of  claim 17 , wherein said composition is administered in the form of an oral dosage.  
     
     
         20 . The composition of  claim 19 , wherein said oral dosage is in the form of a soft gelatin capsule.  
     
     
         21 . The composition of  claim 19 , wherein the oral administration of said composition is at a dosage of about 20 mg-1500 mg per day.  
     
     
         22 . The composition of  claim 17 , wherein said composition is administered as a topical formulation selected from the group consisting of a cream, a lotion, an ointment, a gel, and a liquid.  
     
     
         23 . The composition of  claim 22 , wherein said concentration of said tocotrienol is about 1.0%.  
     
     
         24 . A method for promoting hair growth and reducing hair loss comprising administering a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient and a tocotrienol selected from the group consisting of α-, γ-, and δ-tocotrienols, wherein the concentration of said tocotrienol is about 0.1%.  
     
     
         25 . The method of  claim 24 , further comprising administering about 23 i.u. of alpha-tocopherol and wherein the amount of said mixed tocotrienols is about 50 mg.

         27 . The method of  claim 26 , wherein said oral dosage is in the form of a soft gelatin capsule.

         30 . The method of  claim 29 , wherein the concentration of said tocotrienol is about 1.0%.
