Abstract

Efficient welding can easily enhance strength of a welded joint. A welding material, made of an iron-based alloy containing Si in the range of from 0.6% by weight to 2.0% by weight, which allows a welded joint strength to be enhanced by introducing compressive residual stress in the neighborhood of a welded part by transformation expansion, is provided.

What is claimed is:  
     
         1 . A welding material comprising an iron-based alloy containing Si in the range of from 0.6% by weight to 2.0% by weight, being characterized in that a welded joint strength is enhanced by introducing compressive residual stress in the neighborhood of a welded part by transformation expansion.  
     
     
         2 . The welding material as set forth in  claim 1 , being characterized in that a composition thereof comprises (in weight percent) Ni of from 2 to 20, Cr of from 2 to 20, C of 0.5 or less, Si of from 0.6 to 2.0, Mn of 2.0 or less and Mo of 0.5 or less.  
     
     
         3 . The welding material as set forth in  claim 1  or  2 , being characterized in that a composition thereof comprises (in weight percent) P and S of less than 0.02.
