Abstract
An adjustable apparatus for protection of a door or window opening having an upper frame and a lower frame, the adjustable apparatus including a plurality of posts, a first end plate for fastening a first end of the adjustable apparatus to the upper frame of the opening, and a second end plate for fastening a second end of the apparatus to the lower frame of the opening, wherein the plurality of posts further include a first portion having a predetermined length and a second portion having a predetermined length, wherein the first portion telescopically engages the second portion, and wherein a length of the plurality of posts telescopically adjusts to correspond to a longitudinal dimension between the upper frame and the lower frame of the opening.

1 . An adjustable apparatus for protection of a door or window opening having an upper frame and a lower frame, said adjustable apparatus comprising:
a plurality of posts; a first end plate for fastening a first end of said adjustable apparatus to the upper frame of said opening; and a second end plate for fastening a second end of said apparatus to the lower frame of said opening; wherein said plurality of posts further comprise:
a first portion having a predetermined length; and
a second portion having a predetermined length;
wherein said first portion telescopically engages said second portion, and
wherein a length of said plurality of posts telescopically adjusts to correspond to a longitudinal dimension between said upper frame and said lower frame of said opening.
2 . The adjustable apparatus according to claim 1 , whereby said first portion is operable to allow movement in a longitudinal direction with respect to said second portion.
3 . The adjustable apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said first portion has an outside diameter corresponding to an inside diameter of said second portion.
4 . The adjustable apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said first portion is solid and said second portion is hollow.
5 . The adjustable apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein an outside shape of said first portion corresponds to an interior shape of said second portion.
6 . The adjustable apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said first portion and said second portion have a tubular shape.
7 . The adjustable apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said first portion and said second portion have a rectangular shape.
8 . The adjustable apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said first portion and said second portion have a square shape.
9 . The adjustable apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising a coupling for securing said first portion in a fixed position with respect to said second portion
10 . The adjustable apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising at least-one coupling for fixing said first portion to said second portion.
11 . The adjustable apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising a plurality of fasteners for securing said first portion to said upper frame of said opening and said second portion to a lower frame of said opening.
12 . The adjustable apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising at least one transverse member connecting said plurality of posts.
13 . The adjustable apparatus according to claim 12 , wherein said at least one transverse member is a horizontal plate.
14 . The adjustable apparatus according to claim 12 , wherein said at least one transverse member is a vertical plate.
15 . The adjustable apparatus according to claim 9 , wherein said coupling for securing comprises:
a coupling attached to said second portion; and a fastener engaging said coupling and adjustable to compress said coupling, thereby applying frictional force to said first portion and fixing said first portion to said second portion.
16 . A modular adjustable securing apparatus for protection of a door or window opening having an upper frame and a lower frame, said modular adjustable apparatus comprising a plurality of modules, wherein each of said modules comprises:
a plurality of posts; a first end plate for fastening a first end of said adjustable apparatus to the upper frame of said opening; and a second end plate for fastening a second end of said apparatus to the lower frame of said opening; wherein said plurality of posts further comprise:
a first portion having a predetermined length; and
a second portion having a predetermined length;
wherein said first portion telescopically engages said second portion, and
wherein a length of said plurality of posts telescopically adjusts to correspond to a longitudinal dimension between said upper frame and said lower frame of said opening.
17 . The adjustable apparatus according to claim 16 , further comprising a plurality of fasteners for securing said first portion to said upper frame of said opening and said second portion to a lower frame of said opening.
18 . The adjustable apparatus according to claim 16 , further comprising at least one transverse member connecting said plurality of posts.
19 . The adjustable apparatus according to claim 16 , wherein said at least one transverse member is a horizontal plate.
20 . The adjustable apparatus according to claim 16 , wherein said at least one transverse member is a vertical plate.
21 . The adjustable apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising at least one reinforcement member disposed within one of said plurality of posts.
