Abstract

A method for preparing a disinfectant and sterilizing peracetic acid solution, comprising the production just before use of peracetic acid by mixing an activator (HP) with a parent mixture.

What is claimed is:  
     
         1 . A method for preparing a disinfectant and sterilizing peracetic acid solution, comprising the production just before use of peracetic acid by mixing an activator with a parent mixture.  
     
     
         2 . A method according to  claim 1 , wherein said before-use preparation occurs at an acid pH and at room temperature.  
     
     
         3 . A method according to  claim 1 , wherein said before-use preparation occurs at a pH buffered at 3.50 to 7.00 at 20° C. and at room temperature.  
     
     
         4 . A method according to  claim 1 , wherein said before-use preparation occurs with an amount in excess of acetic acid and/or peroxide reagent with respect to equilibrium.  
     
     
         5 . A method according to  claim 4 , wherein said before-use preparation includes concentration of peracetic acid between 0.001 and 10.000 % w/w.  
     
     
         6 . A method according to  claim 5 , wherein the specific gravity of said parent solution is included in the range from 0.870 to 1.100 g/ml at 20° C. depending upon the presence of alcohols in the solution.  
     
     
         7 . A method according to  claim 1 , wherein the pH of said parent solution is kept acid.  
     
     
         8 . A method according to any  claim 1 , wherein the pH of the parent solution is kept buffered between pH 3.50-7.00 at 20° C.  
     
     
         9 . A method according to  claim 1 , further comprising the application of said activated parent solution by means of ultrasound instruments or other mechanical washing and disinfection devices in order to increase its germicidal efficiency.  
     
     
         10 . A disinfectant system comprising a parent solution which comprises: 
 at least one acetylated compound 0.001-13.00 % w/w,    deionized water as necessary to 100.000 % w/w    and an activator comprising a peroxide which is designed to be added to said parent solution just before use.    
     
     
         11 . A disinfectant system according to  claim 10 , wherein the said at least one acetilated compound comprises an N-acatylated compound.  
     
     
         12 . A disinfectant system according to  claim 11 , wherein said N-acetylated compound is selected from the group formed by N, N′, N″, N′″-tetraacetyl glycoluryl and tetraacetyl ethylene diamine (TAED).  
     
     
         13 . A disinfectant system according to any  claim 10 , wherein the said at least one acetilated compound comprised an O-acetylated compound.  
     
     
         14 . A disinfectant system according to  claim 13 , wherein said O-acetylated compound comprises glacial or concentrated acetic acid.  
     
     
         15 . A disinfectant system according to any  claim 10 , wherein said parent solution comprises at least one primary and/or secondary and/or tertiary short-chain or long-chain alcohol in a percentage ranging between 0.001 and 35.000% w/w.  
     
     
         16 . A disinfectant system according to any  claim 10 , wherein said parent solution comprises a conjugate salt (acetate) of acetic acid in an amount which depends on the percentage of said acetic acid to form a buffer system which buffers the pH to 3.50-7.00 at 20° C.  
     
     
         17 . A disinfectant system according to any  claim 10 , wherein said parent solution comprises a buffer system which comprises at least one weak acid/conjugate base or a base and conjugate acid suitable for buffering the pH to 3.50-7.00 at 20° C.  
     
     
         18 . A disinfectant system according to any  claim 10 , wherein said parent solution comprises at least one anionic surfactant compound in a percentage ranging between 0.001 and 5.000% w/w.  
     
     
         19 . A disinfectant system according to  claim 18 , wherein said anionic surfactant is selected from the group comprising alkyl benzene sulfonates having 6 to 18 carbon atoms in the alkyl group, alkane sulfonates having 8 to 22 carbon atoms in the alkane group and alkyl sulfates having 8 to 22 carbon atoms in the alkyl group.  
     
     
         20 . A disinfectant system according to  claim 10 , wherein said parent solution comprises at least one stabilizing agent in a percentage between 0.001 and 15.000% w/w.  
     
     
         21 . A disinfectant system according to  claim 20 , wherein said stabilizing agent comprises at least one sequestrant or chelating agent designed to remove any traces of metallic ions, which accelerate the decomposition of peroxides.  
     
     
         22 . A disinfectant system according to  claim 21 , wherein the said sequestrant agent comprises at least one phosphonic acid having a low molecular wieght and containing at least two anionic groups, one of which is a phosphonic acid group.  
     
     
         23 . A disinfectant system according to  claim 21 , wherein said sequestrant agent is selected from the group formed by EDTA, 8-hydroxyquinoline, sodium tripolyphosphate and sodium pyrophosphate.  
     
     
         24 . A disinfectant system according to  claim 21 , wherein said at least one phosphonic acid is selected from the group formed by diphosptiolic acids having the following general formula:  
       R 1 CH 5 O 7 P 2 ; R 1 R 2 R 3 CH 5 O 6 NP 2    
       where R 1  is a member selected from the group comprising phenyl, cycloalkyl having 5 to 6 carbon atoms and alkyl having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, R 2  and R 3  are members selected from the group comprising hydrogen, alkyls having 1 to 4 carbon atoms and amino alkyls having 1 to 4 carbon atoms.  
     
     
         25 . A disinfectant solution according to  claim 24 , wherein said diphosphonic acids comprise: 
 amminotri-(methylene phosphonic acid)    dimethylaminomethane diphosphonic acid    amminoacetic acid N-di-(methylene phosphonic acid)    ethylene diamine tetra-(methylene phosphonic acid)    1-amino-1-cyclohexylmethane-1,1-diphosphonic acid    3-aminopropaneff-1-hydroxy-1,1-diphosphonic acid    2-phosphonobutane-,1,2,4-traicarboxylic acid.    phosphone succinic acid    1-phospone-1-methylsuccinic acid    dimethylaminomethane diphosphonic acid    1-amino-1-phenylmethane diphosphonic acid    aminotri-(methylene phosphonic acid)    1-hydroxyethane-1,1-diphosphonic acid    their water-soluble salts, particularly alkaline metal salts, mixtures of individual phosphonic acids or of acid salts thereof.    
     
     
         26 . A disinfectant system according to  claim 10 , wherein said parent solution comprises at least one wetting agent in a percentage ranging between 0.001 and 10.000% w/w.  
     
     
         27 . A disinfectant system according to  claim 26 , wherein said wetting agent is a polyol.  
     
     
         28 . A disinfectant system according to  claim 27 , wherein said polyol comprises glycerine, propylene glycol, ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol and monomethylether dipropylene glycol.  
     
     
         29 . A disinfectant according to  claim 10 , wherein said parent solution comprises at least one oxyde-reduction indicator in a percentage sufficient to indicate, by color changing, that activation has occurred or activator has been added thereto.  
     
     
         30 . A disinfectant system according to  claim 29 , wherein said indicator is a colored compound having a complex of double conjugate bonds and changing color according to its state of oxidation.  
     
     
         31 . A disinfectant system according to  claim 10 , wherein said activator comprises at least one peroxide compound selected from the group including potassium peroxydisulfate, potassium peroxymonosulfate, hydrogen peroxide and derivatives thereof, potassium and sodium perborates, carbamide peroxide, all of them in any physical state and in concentrations of active oxygen.  
     
     
         32 . A disinfectant system according to  claim 31 , wherein said at least one peroxyde compount comprises potassium and sodium perborates and carbamide peroxide.  
     
     
         33 . A disinfectant system according to  claim 32 , wherein the amount of said activator to be added to said parent solution depends upon to a desired concentration of peracetic acid and to a desired molar excess of hydrogen peroxide with respect to equilibrium with respect to the other reagent including an N- or O-acetylated derivative.
