Topical leave-on compositions containing pantothenic acid and its derivatives to reduce the need for underarm shaving
Abstract
A method for softening hair and reducing the need for underarm shaving. One exemplary method includes the step of providing a topical leave-on composition that comprises: (a) from about 0.1% to about 30% by weight of an aluminum-containing antiperspirant active; (b) from about 0.01% to about 10% by weight of a stable pantothenic acid having the formula: wherein R1, R2 and R3 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C2-C20 hydrocarbons, C2-C20 carboxylic acid esters, and combinations thereof; (c) from about 10% to about 99.89% by weight of a liquid carrier; (d) wherein said composition is stable after 24 hours at 85C., wherein stable means that said composition is substantially free of off-odor and free of undesirable visible crystals; and (e) wherein said pantothenic acid is stable in the presence of said aluminum-containing antiperspirant active.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A method for softening hair and reducing the need for underarm shaving comprising the step of providing a topical leave-on composition wherein said composition comprises:
(a) from about 0.1% to about 30% by weight of an alumninum-containing antiperspirant active; (b) from about 0.01% to about 10% by weight of a stable pantothenic acid having the formula: wherein R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C2-C20 hydrocarbons, C2-C20 carboxylic acid esters, and combinations thereof; (c) from about 10% to about 99.89% by weight of a liquid carrier; (d) wherein said composition is stable after 24 hours at 85C., wherein stable means that said composition is substantially free of off-odor and free of undesirable visible crystals; and (e) wherein said pantothenic acid is stable in the presence of said aluminum-containing antiperspirant active.
2 . A method for softening hair and reducing the need for underarm shaving comprising the step of providing a topical leave-on composition wherein said composition comprises:
(a) from about 0.1% to about 30% by weight of an aluminum-containing antiperspirant active; (b) from about 0.01% to about 10% by weight of a stable pantothenic acid derivative having the formula: wherein R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C2-C20 hydrocarbons, C2-C20 carboxylic acid esters, and combinations thereof, wherein not more than two of R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are hydrogen; (c) from about 10% to about 99.89% by weight of a liquid carrier; (d) wherein said composition is stable after 24 hours at 85C., wherein stable means that said composition is substantially free of off-odor and free of undesirable visible crystals; and (e) wherein said pantothenic acid derivative is stable in the presence of said aluminum-containing antiperspirant active.
3 . A method for softening hair and reducing the need for underarm shaving comprising the step of providing a topical leave-on composition wherein said composition comprises:
(a) from about 0.01% to about 10% by weight of a stable pantothenic acid having the formula: wherein R 1, R 2 and R 3 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C2-C20 hydrocarbons, C2-C20 carboxylic acid esters, and combinations thereof; (b) from about 10% to about 99.89% by weight of a liquid carrier; (c) wherein said composition is stable after 24 hours at 85C., wherein stable means that said composition is substantially free of off-odor and free of undesirable visible crystals; (d) wherein said composition has a pH of from about 2.0 to about 5.0 and are intended solely for leave-on application; and (e) wherein said pantothenic acid is stable in said composition.
4 . The method of claim 1 wherein said stable pantothenic acid is made stable by one or more of the following techniques: encapsulation, use of multichamber packaging, use of multisectioned liquids, use of multisection soft solids, use of multiphase solids, and combinations thereof.
5 . The method of claim 3 wherein said stable pantothenic acid is made stable by one or more of the following techniques: encapsulation, use of multichamber packaging, use of multisectioned liquids, use of multisection soft solids, use of multiphase solids, and combinations thereof.
6 . The composition of claim 1 wherein said stable pantothenic acid is a salt of pantothenic acid.
7 . The composition of claim 3 , wherein the composition further comprises from about 0.1% to about 20% by weight of an organic acid.
8 . The composition of claim 1 further comprising petrolatum from about 0.1% to about 15% by weight of the composition.
9 . The composition of claim 2 further comprising petrolatum from about 0.1% to about 15% by weight of the composition.
10 . The composition of claim 3 further comprising petrolatum from about 0.1% to about 15% by weight of the composition.
11 . The method of claim 1 wherein the hair is sufficiently softened such that a consumer notices an enhanced ease of shaving at about 72 hours after application of said composition, more preferably 48 hours.
12 . The method of claim 2 wherein the hair is sufficiently softened such that a consumer notices an enhanced ease of shaving at about 72 hours after application of said composition, more preferably 48 hours.
13 . The method of claim 3 wherein the hair is sufficiently softened such that a consumer notices an enhanced ease of shaving at about 72 hours after application of said composition, more preferably 48 hours.
14 . The method of claim 1 wherein the hair is sufficiently softened such that a consumer notices a reduced need for shaving at about 14 days after application of said composition.
15 . The method of claim 2 wherein the hair is sufficiently softened such that a consumer notices a reduced need for shaving at about 14 days after application of said composition.
16 . The method of claim 3 wherein the hair is sufficiently softened such that a consumer notices a reduced need for shaving at about 14 days after application of said composition.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
