Abstract

A spill protection device for containers of liquids includes a main body member (a) and a covering wall ( 1 ) having an opening ( 2 ). Extending downwardly from the covering wall ( 1 ) is a housing ( 3 ) which engages the rim ( 21 ) of the application container (b). The main body (a) includes a spillway ( 7 ) and a removal grip ( 12 ). When the protection device is applied, its housing ( 3 ) protects the rim ( 21 ) which is covered by the covering wall ( 1 ). The possible accidental spills or drips occur on the main body (a) of the protection device, without affecting the rims ( 21 ) of the container (b) which are protected within the housing ( 3 ) and by the covering wall ( 1 ).

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
Having specially described and determined the nature of the present invention, and how it may be put into practice, claim is made as of exclusive right and property:

         1 . A spill protection device for containers of liquids which is structurally arranged to engage the rim—non-grooved or grooved—which surrounds the mouth of the liquid container, comprising
 a main body portion having a covering wall and an opening therein;
 a housing portion for said container rim, positioned underneath said covering wall;
 said housing portion is comprised of at least a pair of frame members, an internal frame member and an external frame member which are structurally arranged to engage the rim of the container;
 said internal frame member provides a spillway means for liquids to drip into the mouth of the container; and
 said external frame member provides the external limits of the housing on the rim of the container.

         2 . The spill protection device for containers of liquids in accordance with claim 1 , comprising
 an open main body consisting of a covering wall on the rim of the container mouth; an annular housing underneath said covering wall for said container rim, said housing being formed by a pair of frames—one internal and one external—surrounding the rim, with said internal frame acting as a dripping means for liquid into the container and said outer frame defining the outer limits of the housing, with an annular ledge in the groove of the rim.

         3 . The spill protection device in accordance with claim 2 , wherein said main body portion includes a spillway member which extends from said opening outwardly and terminates at one end toward which a pair of side retaining walls flows.

         4 . The spill protection device in accordance with claim 1 , wherein said main body portion and opening therein includes hanging racks for brushes.

         5 . A spill protection device in accordance with claims 1 and 2 , wherein said opening in said main body portion includes a draining member to facilitate draining of brushes.

         6 . A spill protection device in accordance with claim 4 , wherein said hanging racks are recesses in the border of the opening, in said main body portion.

         7 . A spill protection device in accordance with claim 5 , wherein said draining member comprises a fluted section to be contacted by the brushes to permit drainage into the mouth of the container.

         8 . A spill protection device in accordance with claims 1 and 2 , wherein the main body portion includes a removal grip which projects therefrom.

         9 . A spill protection device in accordance with claims 1 and 2 , wherein the protection device is comprised of an elastically deformable material.

         10 . A spill protection device in accordance with claim 1 , which is structurally arranged to engage the rim having internal and external facings which surround the mouth of a container, including in combination:
 a main body portion having a covering wall and a housing portion for engaging the rim of the container, said housing portion having a pair of internal and external frame members which project downwardly from said covering wall to engage the rim of the container; a removal grip formed at the free ends of said main body portion with said internal frame member overlapping the internal facing of said application container and said external frame which overlaps the external face of said application container; and a spillway formed by an outfall channel which cuts through said internal frame member.

         11 . A spill protection device in accordance with claims 1 and 2 , wherein said device is removable from the mouth of the container.

         12 . A spill protection device in accordance with  claim 1 , comprising an annular body consisting of a covering wall from which a pair of frames, inner and outer, project cross-sectionally;
 a covering wall having underneath a housing opening on the container rim; an inner frame overlapping the inner faces of said container and an outer frame which, overlapping the outer faces of said container, supplements said inner frame and covering wall in the forming of the said housing opening; and a spillway formed by an outfall channel which cuts through said inner frame.

         13 . A spill protection device in accordance with claim 1 comprising
 an annular body, elastically deformable, consisting of a covering wall from which a pair of frames, inner and outer, project cross-sectionally;
 a covering wall having underneath a housing opening on the container rim;
 an inner frame overlapping the inner faces of said container and an outer frame which, overlapping the outer faces of said container, supplements said inner frame and covering wall in the forming of the said housing opening; and
 a spillway formed by an outfall channel which cuts through said inner frame.

         14 . A spill protection device in accordance with claim 13 wherein the spillway is formed by an oblique outfall channel which cuts cross-sectionally through the inner frame up to, at least, the areas adjacent to the upper border of the outer frame.

         15 . A spill protection device in accordance with claim 1 , wherein, at the least, the outer frame constitutes a message-carrying means.

         16 . A spill protection device in accordance with claim 1 , wherein the outer frame extends in the manner of a flap, having a pair of openings diametrically opposed serving as passageways for the ends of the grip part of the container.
