Abstract

A sealing material is used in a seal member for a compressor that compresses refrigerant including carbon dioxide gas. The sealing material has a polymer mixture. The polymer mixture includes an acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber series polymer containing approximately 45% or more by weight of bound acrylonitrile.

Claims

         4 . The sealing material according to claim 3 , wherein the polymer mixture includes the acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber series polymer content of approximately 60% to 80% while the rest of the polymer mixture is the ethylene-propylene copolymer rubber.

         5 . The sealing material according to claim 3 , wherein the ethylene-propylene copolymer rubber includes one of ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer rubber, ethylene-propylene biopolymer rubber, ethylene-propylene-1-butene terpolymer rubber, ethylene-1-butene biopolymer rubber, ethylene-propylene-1-butene-diene copolymer rubber and ethylene-1-butene-diene copolymer rubber.

         6 . The sealing material according to claim 1 , wherein the sealing material is used in one of the seal member including a lip seal, a packing, an O-ring, a gasket and a valve seal.

         7 . The sealing material according to claim 1 , further comprising approximately 5 parts by weight of zinc oxide, approximately 6 parts by weight of peroxide, approximately 1.5 parts by weight of antioxidant and approximately 60 parts by weight of one of carbon black and white carbon per 100 parts by weight of the polymer mixture.

         8 . The sealing material according to claim 1 , further comprising approximately 30 parts or less by weight of non-reinforcing inorganic filler per 100 parts by weight of the polymer mixture.

         9 . The sealing material according to claim 1 , further comprising approximately 50 parts or less by weight of one of fiber, graphite, molybdenum disulfide powder and nickel powder per 100 parts by weight of the polymer mixture.

         10 . The sealing material according to claim 1 , further comprising approximately 5 to 20 parts by weight of plasticizer per 100 parts by weight of the polymer mixture.

         11 . A compressor comprising;
 a housing; a rotary shaft supported by the housing; a compression mechanism located in the housing for compressing refrigerant that contains carbon dioxide gas, the compression mechanism being driven by the rotary shaft; a seal member provided in the housing for sealing the refrigerant in the housing, the seal member comprising: and
 sealing material including a polymer mixture including an acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber series polymer containing approximately 45% or more by weight of bound acrylonitrile.

         12 . The compressor according to claim 11 , wherein the seal member constitutes a shaft sealing mechanism interposed between the housing and the rotary shaft for sealing between the housing and the rotary shaft.

         13 . The compressor according to claim 12 , wherein the seal member is a lip seal.

         14 . The compressor according to claim 11 , wherein the seal member is one of a lip seal, a packing, an O-ring, a gasket and a valve seal.

         15 . The compressor according to claim 11 , wherein the acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber series polymer contains approximately 49.2% or more by weight of bound acrylonitrile.

         16 . The compressor according to claim 11 , wherein the polymer mixture includes the acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber series polymer content of approximately 50% to 95% by weight while the rest of the polymer mixture further comprises ethylene-propylene copolymer rubber.
