Abstract

Abstract of Disclosure A method of manufacturing an absorbent article in the form of a pants-type diaper or a sanitary panty starts from a flat blank which includes an elongated absorbent body (5) enclosed between two casing sheets (2, 9) which at opposing front and rear end parts of the absorbent body have side parts which extend laterally beyond the body on opposite sides thereof. The method includes the step of folding the blank about a transverse axis so that the end edges of the side parts lie edge-to-edge. The front and rear side parts of the blank which oppose one another in the folded state of the blank are joined together by a releasable and refastenable fastener (20).

Claims

         1. A method of releasably and refastenably connecting two substantially flat parts of a waist portion of a pants diaper, comprising the steps of:

         providing a two component releasable and refastenable fastener having a first planar component connected to a second planar component;

         while the first planar component is connected to the second planar component, securing the first planar component of the two component fastener in a substantially permanent manner to a two dimensional planar area in a first substantially flat part of the waist portion, which first substantially flat part is not a part of any seams in the waist portion such that only shear forces and not peel forces are exerted between the fastener and the first flat portion during wearing of the pants diaper; and

         while the first planar component is connected to the second planar component, securing the second planar component of the two component fastener to a two dimensional planar area in a second substantially flat part of the waist portion, which second substantially flat part is not a part of any seams in the waist portion such that only shear forces and not peel forces are exerted between the fastener and the second flat portion during wearing of the pants diaper.

         2. The method according to Claim 1 , wherein said releasable and refastenable fasteners being comprised of mutually complementary members of two elements, of which one of the two elements is fastened to the inside of the front side part and a second of the two elements is fastened to the inside of the rear side part.

         3. The method of Claim 2 , wherein the mutually complementary members are comprised of buttons and buttonholes.

         4. The method of Claim 2 , wherein the mutually complementary members are comprised of hooks and eyes.

         5. The method of Claim 2 , wherein the mutually complementary members are comprised of beads and grooves.

         6. The method of Claim 2 , wherein the mutually complementary members are comprised of male and female parts of a self-fastening tape.

         7. The method of Claim 2 , wherein one of the mutually complementary members is provided with an adhesive coating.

         8. The method of Claim 2 , wherein one of the mutually complementary members are comprised of projections on one of the two elements and cooperating through-openings on the other of the two elements.
