Pigmented cosmetic compositions

Abstract

The present invention relates to cosmetic compositions that include one or more laked pigments. The present invention relates to improved cosmetic compositions having one or more laked pigments that include one or more metal salts. The present invention also relates to a method of improving compositions that have one or more laked pigments.

1 . A cosmetic composition comprising: 
 at least one laked pigment; and    at least one metal salt in an amount effective to inhibit conversion of the laked pigment to a dye.    
     
     
         2 . The composition of  claim 1 , wherein the at least one metal salt is present in an amount about 0.01 wt % to about 0.5 wt % of the total weight of the composition.  
     
     
         3 . The composition of  claim 1 , wherein the at least one metal salt is present in an amount about 0.01 wt % to less than about 0.2 wt % of the total weight of the composition.  
     
     
         4 . The composition of  claim 1 , wherein the at least one metal salt is a calcium salt.  
     
     
         5 . The composition of  claim 4 , wherein the calcium salt is selected from the group consisting of calcium alkanoate, calcium acetate, calcium chloride, calcium nitrate, calcium isobutyrate, and any combinations thereof.  
     
     
         6 . The composition of  claim 5 , wherein the calcium salt is selected from the group consisting of calcium alkanoate, calcium acetate, and any combination thereof.  
     
     
         7 . The composition of  claim 1 , wherein the composition is in a product form selected from the group consisting of a nail enamel, a lipstick, a blush and a foundation.  
     
     
         8 . The composition of  claim 7 , wherein the composition is the nail enamel, and wherein the at least one metal salt is present in an amount about 0.01 to about 0.5 wt % of the total weight of the composition.  
     
     
         9 . The composition of  claim 8 , wherein the at least one metal salt is present in an amount about 0.01 wt % to less than about 0.2 wt % of the total weight of the composition.  
     
     
         10 . The composition of  claim 8 , wherein the at least one metal salt is a calcium salt.  
     
     
         11 . The composition of  claim 10 , wherein the calcium salt is selected from the group consisting of calcium alkanoate, calcium acetate, calcium chloride, calcium nitrate, calcium isobutyrate, and any combinations thereof.  
     
     
         12 . The composition of  claim 11 , wherein the calcium salt is selected from the group consisting of calcium alkanoate, calcium acetate, and any combination thereof.  
     
     
         13 . A method of inhibiting staining of a nail from a nail enamel comprising applying to the nail the nail enamel of  claim 8 .  
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 19 , wherein the nail enamel has been in direct contact with the nail for a period of time greater than one week.  
     
     
         15 . The method of  claim 19 , wherein the nail enamel has been in direct contact with the nail for a period of time greater than two weeks.  
     
     
         16 . A method of inhibiting color shift in a cosmetic composition comprising: 
 forming a base composition;    preconditioning the base composition with a metal salt; and    adding a laked pigment to the preconditioned base composition to form the cosmetic composition, wherein the metal salt is present in an amount effective to inhibit the conversion of the laked pigment to a dye.    
     
     
         17 . The method of  claim 16 , wherein the amount of metal salt is about 0.01 wt % to about 0.5 wt % of the total weight of the cosmetic composition.  
     
     
         18 . The method of  claim 17 , wherein the cosmetic composition is in a product form selected from the group consisting of a nail enamel, a lipstick, a blush and a foundation.  
     
     
         19 . The method of  claim 16 , wherein the amount of metal salt is about 0.01 wt % to less than about 0.2 wt % of the total weight of the cosmetic composition.  
     
     
         20 . The method of  claim 19 , wherein the metal salt is a calcium salt.  
     
     
         21 . The method of  claim 20 , wherein the calcium salt is selected from the group consisting of calcium alkanoate, calcium acetate, calcium chloride, calcium nitrate, calcium isobutyrate, and any combinations thereof.
