Abstract

A sheet of composite material for use in a process of treating hair with a treatment solution. The sheet includes a first layer formed of a first material, and a second layer formed of a second material. The two layers are co-extensive with one another such that each has a peripheral edge extending substantially adjacent the other. At least one of the first and the second layers is chemically resistant to the treatment solution.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

1 . A sheet of composite material for use in a process of treating hair with a treating agent, said sheet comprising a first layer formed from a first material and a second layer formed from a second material, at least one of said first and said second materials being chemically resistant to the treating agent, and said first layer having a first peripheral edge and said second layer having a second peripheral edge extending substantially adjacent said first peripheral edge and together forming a sheet peripheral edge.

2 . A sheet of composite material according to claim 1 , wherein said first material is a metal foil.

3 . A sheet of composite material according to claim 2 , wherein said metal foil is an aluminum alloy.

4 . A sheet of composite material according to claim 2 , wherein said metal foil has a thickness of about 0.0001 inches to about 0.015 inches.

5 . A sheet of composite material according to claim 1 , wherein said second material is a polymer film.

6 . A sheet of composite material according to claim 5 , wherein said polymer film is polyolefin based.

7 . A sheet of composite material according to claim 6 , wherein said polymer film has a thickness of about 0.0005 inches to about 0.015 inches.

8 . A sheet of composite material according to claim 1 further comprising a third layer formed from a third material.

9 . A sheet of composite material according to claim 8 , wherein said third layer is disposed between said first and second layers, and said third material is a laminating adhesive.

10 . A sheet of composite material according to claim 8 , wherein said third layer is disposed between said first and second layers, said third material is a metal foil, and said first and said second materials are polymeric film.

11 . A sheet of composite material according to claim 10 , wherein said metal foil is an aluminum alloy and said polymeric film is polyolefin based.

12 . A sheet of composite material according to claim 10 further comprising a fourth layer and a fifth layer formed respectively from a fourth and a fifth material, said fourth layer disposed between said first and said third layers, and said fifth layer disposed between said second and said third layers.

13 . A sheet of composite material according to claim 12 , wherein each of said fourth and fifth materials are laminating adhesive.

14 . A sheet of composite material for use in a process of treating hair with a treating agent, said sheet comprising a first layer formed from a first material, and a second layer substantially co-extensive with said first layer and formed from a second material, at least one of said first and said second materials having a dead fold property.

15 . A sheet of composite material according to claim 14 , wherein said first material is an aluminum alloy foil.

16 . A sheet of composite material according to claim 15 , wherein said second material is a polyolefin-based polymeric film.

17 . A method of treating a lock of hair using a treating agent, the method comprising the steps of:
providing a sheet of composite material; positioning a first portion of said sheet adjacent the lock of hair; applying the treating agent to at least a portion of the lock of hair; and, covering the treated lock of hair with a second portion of said sheet of composite material; said sheet of composite material including a first layer formed from a first material and a second layer formed from a second material, at least one of said first and said second materials being chemically resistant to the treating agent, and said first layer having a first peripheral edge and said second layer having a second peripheral edge extending substantially adjacent said first peripheral edge and together forming a sheet peripheral edge.

18 . The invention of claim 17 , wherein said first material is a metal foil having a dead fold property, said method further comprising a step of folding one of said first and said second portions of said sheet of composite material onto the other of said first and said second portions of said sheet of composite material.

19 . The invention of claim 17 , wherein said first material is a metal foil and said second material is a polymeric film, said method further comprising a step of orienting said sheet such that said second material faces the lock of hair and said first material faces away from the lock of hair.

20 . The invention of claim 17 , wherein said first and said second materials are polymeric film each having a different one of a first color and a second color, and said sheet of composite material includes a third layer disposed between said first and said second layers and formed from a metal foil, the method further comprising the steps of positioning one of said sheets adjacent a lock of hair with one of said first and said second colors facing away from said lock of hair, and positioning a different one of said sheets adjacent a different lock of hair with a different one of said first and said second colors facing away from said different lock of hair.
