Abstract

This invention provides a flower organ-specific promoter enabling genetic engineering manipulations of pistil or lodicule. This invention further provides a chitinase expressed specifically in flower organ and its gene.

A DNA fragment comprising the sequence from positions 114 to 1097, a part of said sequence or a sequence which is hybridizable with one of said sequences under conditions of moderate stringency, wherein said hybridizable sequence encodes a protein having a biological activity substantially the same as that encoded by the sequence from positions 114 to 1097.
