Abstract
Given a CD-ROM drive having a plurality of speed ranges selectable in n-fold graduation and having linearly reduced rotational speeds within each speed range respectively between outer and inner sector and having the prescription that a reduction of the rotational speed automatically ensues given a negative read result, control means are provided that effective switching into a lower speed range when a predetermined noise level is upwardly transgressed and/or when vibrations occur.

(new) A CD-ROM drive having a plurality of speed ranges selectable in n-fold graduation and having nearly reduced rotational speeds within each speed range respectively between outer and inner sector, with the prescription that a reduction of the rpm automatically ensues given a negative read result, wherein a controller is provided that, independent of the negative read result, effects a switching into a lower speed range given at least one of: a) an upper transgression of a predetermined audio noise level, and b) when vibrations producing acoustical noise occur, the controller being configured to thereby reduce at least one of the acoustical noise and the vibration producing acoustical noise independent of the negative read result.

(New) The CD-ROM drive according to claim 6 , wherein at least one of acoustic and vibration sensors are provided at the housing of the drive, the output signals thereof influencing controllers in such a way that a control signal for the purpose of reducing the speed is sent to the motor control of the drive when a predetermined threshold is upwardly transgressed.
8 . (New) The CD-ROM drive according to claim 6 , wherein a manually actuatable key of the CD-ROM and accessible during operation of the CD-ROM is allocated to the controller for speed reduction.
9 . (New) A CD-ROM drive having a plurality of speed ranges, comprising:
a controller that assists a switching to a lower speed automatically when acoustical noise occurs, thereby reducing the acoustical noise.
10 . (New) A CD-ROM drive according to claim 9 , further comprising:
a manually actuatable key of the CD-ROM and accessible during operation of the CD-ROM for switching the drive into a speed range respectively lower that is allocated to the controller for speed reduction.
11 . (New) The CD-ROM drive according to claim 10 , wherein repeatedly pressing the manually actuatable key respectively switches the CD-ROM drive into a lower speed range by one step for each press.
12 . (New) A CD-ROM drive according to claim 9 , further comprising at least one of:
a vibration sensor which sends signals to the controller to automatically switch to a lower speed when a vibrational threshold is exceeded; and an acoustic sensor which sends signals to the controller to automatically switch to a lower speed when an acoustic threshold is exceeded.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
