Abstract

This invention relates to a novel bacterial ribonucleoprotein complex and the component parts thereof. More specifically, this invention relates to SRP isolated from Staphylococcus aureus and the use of SRP or components thereof in screens for the identification of antimicrobial compounds and to the use of such compounds in therapy.

         1 . An isolated polynucleotide segment, comprising a nucleic acid sequence, wherein the nucleic acid sequence encodes a polypeptide comprising SEQ ID NO:2.  
     
     
         2 . A vector comprising the isolated polynucleotide of  claim 1 .  
     
     
         3 . An isolated host cell comprising the vector of  claim 2 .  
     
     
         4 . A process for producing a polypeptide, comprising culturing the host cell of  claim 3  under conditions sufficient for the production of the polypeptide, wherein the polypeptide comprises SEQ ID NO:2.  
     
     
         5 . An isolated polynucleotide segment, comprising a nucleic acid sequence, wherein the nucleic acid sequence encodes a polypeptide consisting of SEQ ID NO:2.  
     
     
         6 . A vector comprising the isolated polynucleotide segment of  claim 5 .  
     
     
         7 . An isolated host cell comprising the vector of  claim 6 .  
     
     
         8 . A process for producing the polypeptide, comprising culturing the host cell of  claim 7  under conditions sufficient for the production of the polypeptide, wherein the polypeptide consists of SEQ ID NO:2.  
     
     
         9 . An isolated polynucleotide segment, comprising a nucleic acid sequence, wherein the nucleic acid sequence comprises SEQ ID NO: 1.
