Claims

Abstract

A mechanism to be grasped by the lips for the purpose of developing strength and endurance in muscles that control the embouchure. The mechanism consisting of a rigid segment ( 20 ) either made of or coated with a material suitable for use in the mouth ( 10 ). The mechanism further consisting of a projecting segment capable of imparting an appropriate weight and torque to the segment which is held in the mouth. The projecting portion might support an additional weight that may be either fixed ( 30 ) or movable ( 31 ).

I claim:  
     
         1 . An embouchure muscle strengthening mechanism comprising: 
 (a) a rigid segment to be gripped by human lips, and    (b) means for applying force to said rigid segment, 
 Whereby gripping said rigid segment with the lips for a period of time will result in the exercise of the embouchure muscles surrounding the lips gripping said rigid segment.  
   
     
     
         2 . The mechanism of  claim 1  wherein said rigid segment is coated with a food-grade material suitable for gripping with human lips.  
     
     
         3 . The mechanism of  claim 2  wherein said means consists of a portion of said rigid segment projecting exterior to the mouth.  
     
     
         4 . The mechanism of  claim 2  wherein said means consists of a portion of said rigid segment projecting exterior to the mouth and an additional weight.  
     
     
         5 . The mechanism of  claim 4  wherein said additional weight can be variably positioned along said portion of said rigid segment projecting exterior to the mouth.  
     
     
         6 . The mechanism of  claim 4  wherein said portion of said rigid segment projecting exterior to the mouth has a corkscrew shape.  
     
     
         7 . The mechanism of  claim 1  wherein said means consists of an extension segment that attaches to said rigid segment.  
     
     
         8 . The mechanism of  claim 6  wherein said extension segment supports an additional weight.  
     
     
         9 . The mechanism of  claim 1  wherein said rigid segment is made of a food-grade material suitable for gripping with human lips.  
     
     
         10 . An embouchure muscle strengthening mechanism comprising: 
 (a) a rigid segment to be gripped by human lips, and    (b) a rigid projecting segment projecting from said rigid segment away from the lips of the user, 
 Whereby gripping sail rigid segment with the lips for a period of time will result in the exercise of the muscles surrounding the lips gripping said rigid segment.  
   
     
     
         11 . The mechanism of  claim 10  wherein said rigid segment is coated with a food-grade material suitable for gripping with human lips.  
     
     
         12 . The mechanism of  claim 11  wherein said rigid projecting segment has sufficient mass to exercise the embouchure muscles.  
     
     
         13 . The mechanism of  claim 11  wherein said rigid projecting segment supports an additional weight.  
     
     
         14 . The mechanism of  claim 13  wherein said additional weight can be variably positioned along said rigid projecting segment.  
     
     
         15 . The mechanism of  claim 14  wherein said rigid projecting segment has a corkscrew shape.  
     
     
         16 . The mechanism of  claim 14  wherein said rigid projecting segment is notched.  
     
     
         17 . The mechanism of  claim 14  wherein said rigid projecting segment is wave-shaped.  
     
     
         18 . The mechanism of  claim 10  wherein said rigid segment consists of a food-grade material suitable for gripping with human lips.  
     
     
         19 . The mechanism of  claim 18  wherein said rigid projecting segment has sufficient mass to exercise the embouchure muscles.  
     
     
         20 . The mechanism of  claim 18  wherein said rigid projecting segment supports an additional weight.
