In a topical composition for increasing hair growth comprising saw palmetto, The improvement comprising the inclusion of pharmaceutically effective amounts of acetyl carnitine, co-enzyme Q 10, and a pharmaceutically effective amount of a penetrating agent, wherein hair growth is increased.  
     
     
         30 . The composition of  claim 29 , wherein the penetrating agent is a water dispersible lecithin as a penetrating agent.
