Floral sleeve with upper detachable portion

Abstract

A decorative cover wherein the cover is a flattened sleeve which includes a lower portion having a base portion and a decorative skirt portion and an upper portion which are connected along a detaching element, for example, perforations. Upon opening of the sleeve, the lower portion of the sleeve defines and encompasses an inner retaining space and conforms to the outer surface of a pot. The potted plant is disposed in the inner retaining space of the lower portion of the sleeve such that at least a portion of the pot is covered by the lower portion of the sleeve. The lower portion of the sleeve is detachable from the upper portion by tearing along the detaching element forming an upper edge of the lower portion of the sleeve.

1 . A tubular sleeve for containing a pot, the pot having an upper rim, the tubular sleeve comprising: 
 a lower portion having a lower end, an upper end, and an outer surface area and a retaining space for enclosing the pot, wherein the lower portion is tapered and sized and dimensioned to contain the pot; and    an upper portion having an outer surface area and extending a distance from the upper end of the lower portion and detachable therefrom via a detaching element,    wherein the outer surface area of the lower portion is less than the outer surface area of the upper portion, and    wherein when the upper portion is detached from the upper end of the lower portion, the lower portion is left with a base portion sized to enclose the pot and a plurality of portions which extend from the base portion and which form a decorative skirt portion which extends above the upper rim of the pot such that the decorative skirt portion is left with an upper peripheral edge which does not correspond with the upper rim of the pot.    
     
     
         2 . The tubular sleeve of  claim 1  wherein the base portion and the decorative skirt portion are constructed from a first material and the upper portion is constructed from a second material different from the first material.  
     
     
         3 . The tubular sleeve of  claim 1  further defined as constructed from a material having a thickness in a range of from about 0.1 mil to about 30 mils.  
     
     
         4 . The tubular sleeve of  claim 1  further defined as constructed from a material having a thickness in a range of from about 0.5 mil to about 10 mils.  
     
     
         5 . The tubular sleeve of  claim 1  further defined as constructed from a material having a thickness in a range of from about 1 mil to about 5 mils.  
     
     
         6 . The tubular sleeve of  claim 1  further defined as constructed from a material selected from the group consisting of treated or untreated paper, metal foil, polymeric film, non-polymeric film, cardboard, fiber, cloth, burlap, and laminations or combinations thereof.  
     
     
         7 . The tubular sleeve of  claim 1  further comprising an extended portion of the upper portion for serving as a handle or support element.  
     
     
         8 . The tubular sleeve of  claim 1  wherein the lower portion has an open lower end.  
     
     
         9 . The tubular sleeve of  claim 1  wherein the lower portion has a closed lower end.  
     
     
         10 . The tubular sleeve of  claim 9  wherein the closed lower end has a drain hole.  
     
     
         11 . The tubular sleeve of  claim 1  wherein the lower portion has a drain hole.  
     
     
         12 . The tubular sleeve of  claim 1  wherein the lower end has a gusset therein.  
     
     
         13 . A plant package, comprising: 
 a tubular sleeve comprising: 
 a lower portion having a lower end, an upper end, and an outer surface area and a retaining space for enclosing a pot having an upper rim, and wherein the lower portion is tapered; and  
 an upper portion having an outer surface area and connected to the upper end of the lower portion and detachable therefrom via a detaching element and extending a distance therefrom,  
 wherein the outer surface area of the lower portion is less than the outer surface area of the upper portion, and  
 wherein when the upper sleeve portion is detached from the upper end of the lower portion, the lower portion is left with a base portion sized to enclose the pot and a plurality of portions which extend from the base portion which together form a decorative skirt portion; and  
   a pot disposed within the retaining space of the lower portion of the tubular sleeve, the pot having a floral grouping disposed therein, and wherein the pot is substantially surrounded and encompassed by the base portion of the lower portion and wherein when the upper portion is detached, the decorative skirt portion extends beyond an upper rim of the pot such that the decorative skirt portion is left with an upper peripheral edge which does not correspond with the upper rim of the pot.    
     
     
         14 . The tubular sleeve of  claim 13  wherein the base portion and the decorative skirt portion are constructed from a first material and the upper portion is constructed from a second material different from the first material.  
     
     
         15 . The tubular sleeve of  claim 13  further defined as constructed from a material having a thickness in a range of from about 0.1 mil to about 30 mils.  
     
     
         16 . The tubular sleeve of  claim 13  further defined as constructed from a material having a thickness in a range of from about 0.5 mil to about 10 mils.  
     
     
         17 . The tubular sleeve of  claim 13  further defined as constructed from a material having a thickness in a range of from about 1 mil to about 5 mils.  
     
     
         18 . The tubular sleeve of  claim 13  further defined as constructed from a material selected from the group consisting of treated or untreated paper, metal foil, polymeric film, non-polymeric film, cardboard, fiber, cloth, burlap, and laminations or combinations thereof.  
     
     
         19 . The tubular sleeve of  claim 13  further comprising an extended portion of the sleeve portion for serving as a handle or support element.  
     
     
         20 . The plant package of  claim 13  wherein the lower portion of the tubular sleeve has an open lower end.  
     
     
         21 . The plant package of  claim 13  wherein the lower portion of the tubular sleeve has a closed lower end.  
     
     
         22 . The plant package of  claim 21  wherein the closed lower end of the lower portion of the tubular sleeve has a drain hole.  
     
     
         23 . The plant package of  claim 13  wherein the lower portion has a drain hole.  
     
     
         24 . The plant package of  claim 13  wherein the lower end has a gusset therein.  
     
     
         25 . A tubular sleeve for containing a pot, the tubular sleeve, comprising: 
 a lower portion having a lower end, an upper end, and an outer surface area and a retaining space for enclosing a pot having an upper rim, wherein the lower portion is sized and dimensioned to contain the pot; and    an upper portion having an outer surface area and extending a distance from the upper end of the lower portion and detachable therefrom via a detaching element, and wherein the outer surface area of the lower portion is less than the outer surface area of the upper portion, and    wherein when the upper portion is detached from the upper end of the lower portion, the lower portion is left with a base portion sized and dimensioned to enclose the pot and a plurality of portions which extend from the base portion and which form a decorative skirt portion which extends beyond the upper rim of the pot such that the decorative skirt portion is left with an upper peripheral edge which does not correspond with the upper rim of the pot.    
     
     
         26 . The tubular sleeve of  claim 25  wherein the lower portion has an open lower end.  
     
     
         27 . The tubular sleeve of  claim 25  wherein the lower portion has a closed lower end.

         31 . A plant package, comprising: 
 a tubular sleeve comprising: 
 a lower portion having a lower end, an upper end, and an outer surface area and a retaining space for enclosing a pot, and wherein the lower portion is sized and dimensioned to contain the pot; and  
 an upper portion having an outer surface area and extending a distance from the upper end of the lower portion and detachable therefrom via a detaching element, 
 wherein the outer surface area of the lower portion is less than the outer surface area of the upper portion, and  
 wherein when the upper portion is detached from the upper end of the lower portion, the lower portion is left with a base portion sized and dimensioned to enclose the pot and with a plurality of portions which extend from the base portion and which form a decorative skirt portion; and  
 
   a pot disposed within the retaining space of the lower portion of the tubular sleeve, the pot having a floral grouping disposed therein, and wherein the pot is substantially surrounded and encompassed by the base portion of the lower portion and wherein when the upper portion is detached the decorative skirt portion extends beyond the upper rim of the pot such that the decorative skirt portion is left with an upper peripheral edge which does not correspond with the upper rim of the pot.    
     
     
         32 . The plant package of  claim 31  wherein the lower portion of the tubular sleeve has an open lower end.  
     
     
         33 . The plant package of  claim 31  wherein the lower portion of the tubular sleeve has a closed lower end.  
     
     
         34 . The plant package of  claim 33  wherein the closed lower end of the lower portion of the tubular sleeve has a drain hole.  
     
     
         35 . The plant package of  claim 31  wherein the lower portion has a drain hole.  
     
     
         36 . The plant package of  claim 31  wherein the lower end has a gusset therein.
