Drywall finishing system
Abstract
A drywall finishing system for finishing normal inside and outside corners of any angle. The finishing system comprises a preformed trim piece comprising a semi-rigid member that is relatively thick in the center and tapers laterally to a thin edge or is stepped forming a thick and thin portion. A layer of fibrous can be bonded to the inside surface of the semi-rigid member for receiving joint compound to continuously bond the trim piece to the dry wall. A layer of finishing material can be bonded to the exterior surface of the semi-rigid member. The finishing system can be attached to a wall with fasteners such as nails.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedI claim:
1 . A non-coated drywall corner trim piece comprising:
a preformed, elongated, semi-rigid member having two flanges meeting at an apex, each said flange having an outer surface and an inner surface and each said flange having substantially a step transition on said top surface between a thicker portion and a thinner portion, said thick portion being nearer to said apex; a non-coated fibrous layer on the thicker part of the outer surface of said semi-rigid member for directly receiving paint or texture, substantially the entire outer surface of the thicker part of said semi-rigid member being continuously bonded to said fibrous layer; said semi-rigid member and said outer layer forming a continuously bonded laminated trim piece, said continuously bonded laminated piece held in place in said drywall corner seam with fastening means.
2 . The non-coated drywall corner as in claim 1 further comprising a plurality of holes penetrating said thinner portion of said flanges.
3 . The non-coated drywall corner trim as in claim 1 , wherein said fibrous layer on said outer surface of said elongated member is cup stock paper.
4 . The non-coated drywall corner trim as in claim 1 , wherein said semi-rigid member is high impact plastic.
5 . The non-coated drywall corner trim as in claim 1 , wherein one of said flanges has a lateral width which is greater than the other of said flanges.
6 . The non-coated drywall corner trim as in claim 1 , wherein said semi-rigid member further comprises an arcuate portion of substantially uniform thickness between said flanges.
7 . The non-coated drywall corner trim as in claim 1 , further comprising a hinge between said flanges at the apex, whereby said semi-rigid member can be flexed about said hinge to produce a selected angle between said flanges.
8 . The non-coated drywall corner trim as in claim 1 wherein said fastening means are nails.
9 . The non-coated drywall corner trim as in claim 1 wherein said fastening means are staples.
10 . The non-coated drywall corner trim as in claim 1 wherein said fastening means is wet drywall mud.
11 . The non-coated drywall corner trim as in claim 1 further comprising a layer of fibrous material continuously bonded to said inner surface of said semi-rigid member.
12 . The non-coated drywall corner trim as in claim 11 wherein said fibrous material on said inner surface of said semi-rigid member is joint tape paper.
13 . A drywall trim piece comprising:
a preformed, elongated, semi-rigid member having two flanges meeting at an apex, each said flange having an outer surface and an inner surface and each said flange having substantially a step transition on said top surface between a thicker portion and a thinner portion, said thick portion being nearer to said apex; a non-coated paper layer on the thicker part of the outer surface of said semi-rigid member for directly receiving paint or texture, substantially the entire outer surface of the thicker part of said semi-rigid member being continuously bonded to said paper layer; said semi-rigid member and said outer layer forming a continuously bonded laminated trim piece, said continuously bonded laminated piece held in place in said drywall corner seam with nails.
14 . The drywall trim piece of claim 13 further comprising a layer of paper continuously bonded to the inner surface of said semi-rigid member.
15 . The drywall trim piece as in claim 13 , wherein said paper layer on said outer surface is cup stock paper continuously bonded to said semi-rigid member.
16 . The drywall trim piece as in claim 14 , wherein said paper layer on said inner surface is joint tape paper continuously bonded to said semi-rigid member.
17 . The drywall trim piece as in claim 13 , wherein said semi-rigid member is high impact plastic.
18 . A corner trim finishing piece of the type used to finish interior and exterior corners in drywall construction, the corner trim piece comprising a pair of high impact plastic flanges with front and back surfaces meeting at an apex, the apex cut out to form a hinge allowing the flanges to take any angle, the flanges substantially flat on their back surfaces and stepped in thickness on their front surfaces so that they are thick near the apex forming a thick portion, and thin away from the apex forming a thin portion, with fasteners being used to penetrate the thin portion holding the piece to drywall, the front surfaces also containing a layer of cup-stock paper continuously bonded to the high-impact plastic, this paper receiving paint and texture directly without sanding.
19 . The corner trim piece of claim 18 further comprising a plurality of holes penetrating the thin portion of the flanges.
20 . The corner trim piece of claim 18 wherein the fasteners are nails.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
