Abstract
The present invention relates to the use of 3,5-dihydroxystilbene or 3-hydroxystilbene and/or derivatives thereof as deodorant active agents in the preparation of cosmetic compositions, to the deodorant cosmetic compositions containing these compounds, to the use of the compositions for human topical application, and to novel stilbene derivatives substituted in position 3 and to the cosmetic compositions comprising them.

1 . A method for treating human body odors, comprising topically applying to the affected body area a composition comprising an effective amount of at least one compound of formula (I)
in which:
A is chosen from a hydrogen atom and a radical OR 2 ,
R 1 and R 2 , which are identical or different, are chosen from a hydrogen atom; a C 1 -C 4 alkyl radical; an acyl radical R 3 CO in which R 3 is a linear or branched, saturated or unsaturated, hydroxylated or non-hydroxylated, carboxylated or non-carboxylated C 1 -C 30 hydrocarbon-based radical; a glycosyl radical; a uronyl radical; and a radical PO(OX 1 )(OX 2 ) or a radical SO 2 (OX 3 ), wherein X 1 , X 2 and X 3 , which are identical or different, are chosen from a hydrogen atom, a monovalent alkali metal cation and an NH 4 + cation, and further wherein X 1 and X 2 , which are identical or different, may also be chosen from a divalent metal cations; and
R 4 and R 5 , which are identical, are chosen from a hydrogen atom and a hydroxyl radical.
2 . A method according to claim 1 , wherein said C 1 -C 4 alkyl radical is a methyl radical.
3 . A method according to claim 1 , wherein said glycosyl radical is a glucosyl radical.
4 . A method according to claim 1 , wherein said uronyl radical is chosen from a mannuronyl and a glucuronyl radical.
5 . A method according to claim 1 , wherein said at least one compound of formula (I) is 3,5-dihydroxystilbene.
6 . A method according to claim 1 , wherein said at least one compound of formula (I) is 3-hydroxystilbene.
7 . A method according to claim 5 , wherein said 3,5-dihydroxystilbene is a synthetic product.
8 . A method according to claim 5 , wherein said 3,5-dihydroxystilbene is derived from a plant extract containing it.
9 . A method according to claim 8 , wherein said plant extract is chosen from the genera Pinus; Alnus; Polygonum; Dalbergia; Scutellaria; and Lindera.
10 . A method according to claim 9 , wherein said plant extract is chosen from:
Pinus montana mill., Pinus sylvestris L, Pinus contorta var. Latifolia S. Wats, Pinus ponderosa Dougl., and Pinus Halpensis Mill . from the Pinacea family; Alnus sieboldiana from the Betulacea family; Polygonum nodosum from the Polygonacea family; Dalbergia sissoo from the Leguminosa family; Scutellaria scandens from the Lamiacea family; and Lindera reflexa from the Lauracea family.
11 . A method according to claim 1 , wherein said at least one compound of formula (I) is 3,5,3′,4′-tetrahydroxystilbene.
12 . A method according to claim 1 , wherein said human body odors are human underarm odors.
13 . A method according to claim 1 , wherein said affected body area is the armpit area.
14 . A deodorant cosmetic composition comprising at least one compound of formula (I)
in which:
A is chosen from a hydrogen atom and a radical OR 2 ,
R 1 and R 2 , which are identical or different, are chosen from a hydrogen atom; a C 1 -C 4 alkyl radical; an acyl radical R 3 CO in which R 3 is a linear or branched, saturated or unsaturated, hydroxylated or non-hydroxylated, carboxylated or non-carboxylated C 1 -C 30 hydrocarbon-based radical; a glycosyl radical; a uronyl radical; and a radical PO(OX 1 )(OX 2 ) or a radical SO 2 (OX 3 ), wherein X 1 , X 2 and X 3 , which are identical or different, are chosen from a hydrogen atom, a monovalent alkali metal cation and an NH 4 + cation, and further wherein X 1 and X 2 , which are identical or different, may also be chosen from divalent metal cations; and
R 4 and R 5 , which are identical, are chosen from a hydrogen atom and a hydroxyl radical.
15 . A composition according to claim 14 , wherein said composition is in a cosmetically acceptable vehicle.
16 . A composition according to claim 14 , wherein said at least one compound of formula (I) is present in said composition in an amount ranging from 0.001 to 10% by weight of the active material relative to the total weight of the composition.
17 . A composition according to claim 16 , wherein said at least one compound of formula (I) is present in said composition in an amount ranging from 0.01 to 5% by weight of the active material relative to the total weight of the composition.
18 . A composition according to claim 17 , wherein said at least one compound of formula (I) is present in said composition in an amount ranging from 0.1 to 5% by weight of the active material relative to the total weight of the composition.
19 . A composition according to claim 14 , wherein said composition further comprises at least one additional deodorant or antiperspirant active agent other than said at least one compound of formula (I).
20 . A composition according to claim 15 , wherein said vehicle is aqueous.
21 . A composition according to claim 20 , wherein said vehicle further comprises organic solvents.
22 . A composition according to claim 14 , wherein said composition further comprises cosmetic adjuvants chosen from fatty substances, gelling agents, emollients, softeners, antioxidants, opacifiers, stabilizers, anti-foaming agents, moisturizers, vitamins, fragrances, preserving agents, surfactants, fillers, sequestering agents, polymers, propellants, acidifying or basifying agents, dyes, pigments, and thickeners.
23 . A composition according to claim 14 , wherein said composition is in the form of a water-in-oil or oil-in-water emulsion or a water-in-oil-in-water triple emulsion.
24 . A composition according to claim 14 , wherein said composition is in the form of a lotion, a cream or a fluid gel distributed as an aerosol spray, in a pump-dispenser bottle or as a roll-on, in a form of a thickened cream distributed in a tube, and in a form of a stick or powder.
25 . A method of inhibiting bacterial species constituting the human skin flora comprising topically applying to the human skin 3,5-dihydroxystilbene in synthetic form or in the form of a plant extract containing it.
26 . A method according to claim 25 , wherein said bacterial species is Corynebacterium xerosis.
27 . A compound of formula (I)
in which:
A is chosen from a hydrogen atom and a radical OR 2 ,
R 1 and R 2 , which are identical or different, are chosen from an acyl radical R 3 CO in which R 3 is chosen from linear or branched, saturated or unsaturated, hydroxylated or non-hydroxylated, carboxylated or non-carboxylated C 4 -C 30 hydrocarbon-based radicals; a uronyl radical; and a radical PO(OX 1 )(OX 2 ) or a radical SO 2 (OX 3 ), wherein X 1 , X 2 and X 3 , which are identical or different, are chosen from a hydrogen atom, a monovalent alkali metal cation, and an NH 4 + cation, and further wherein X 1 and X 2 , which are identical or different, may also be chosen from divalent metal cations; and
R 4 and R 5 , which are identical, are chosen from a hydrogen atom and a hydroxyl radical.
28 . A compound according to claim 27 , wherein, said uronyl radical is a mannuronyl or glucuronyl radical.
29 . A cosmetic composition comprising at least one compound of formula (I)
in which
A is chosen from a hydrogen atom and a radical OR 2 ,
R 1 and R 2 , which are identical or different, are chosen from an acyl radical R 3 CO in which R 3 is chosen from linear or branched, saturated or unsaturated, hydroxylated or non-hydroxylated, carboxylated or non-carboxylated C 1 -C 30 hydrocarbon-based radicals; a uronyl radical; and a radical PO(OX 1 )(OX 2 ) or a radical SO 2 (OX 3 ), wherein X 1 , X 2 and X 3 , which are identical or different, are chosen from a hydrogen atom, a monovalent alkali metal cation, and an NH 4 + cation, and further wherein X 1 and X 2 , which are identical or different, may also be chosen from divalent metal cations; and
R 4 and R 5 , which are identical are chosen from a hydrogen atom and a hydroxyl radical.
